Morning Briefing For January 21, 2014 >> Today's Sponsor More Than One Conflict Between Wendy Davis’s Sworn Testimony and Her Actual Life BuzzFeed noted that Wendy Davis’ real biography conflicts with a statement she made under oath in a federal court case in 2012. Davis claimed, under oath, in federal court that she obtained a divorce when she was 19. In fact, according to the Dallas Morning News, Davis was 21. But upon review of the federal court transcript of the bench trial dated January 20, 2012, and comparing it with the Dallas Morning News Dallas Morning News article, Wendy Davis’ sworn testimony in federal court conflicts much more significantly with the truth than just that one statement. In fact, the numerous conflicts suggest Davis played loose with the facts even though she was giving testimony in federal court. A friend of hers told the Dallas Morning News that Wendy Davis was “not going to let family or raising children or anything else get in her way.” The truth, likewise, is one of those things not getting in Wendy Davis’s way. Davis gave testimony in the Texas redistricting case State of Texas v. United States of America and Eric Holder. She is now playing victim blaming Greg Abbott. It is her ex-husband who talked to a left-of-center Dallas reporter. It is also her ex-husband who asked a Texas District Court to issue a temporary restraining order against Wendy Davis in 2003. In that order, the judge ordered that Wendy Davis “be immediately restrained from . . . using illegal drugs or consuming alcohol within 24 hours before or during the period of possession of or access to the child.” Speaking of the child, at the time her twelve year old daughter requested her father serve as her managing conservator. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → Oklahoma? Jim Bridenstine. Okay? To answer the question that keeps invading my vacation in the form of tweets, Facebook messages, texts, and emails — Congressman Jim Bridenstine. Jim is the guy I would support in an instant to replace Senator Coburn in Okalahoma. I don’t know whether he is running or not, but conservatives would be insane to not draft him into the race. In fact, I think conservatives should draft him, rally around him, and let the establishment be the side divided behind multiple candidates. When Coburn ran for the Senate in 2004, the establishment rallied behind his opponent in the primary. Coburn was the outsider. But conservatives united behind him, rallied, and won. We need to do the same for Jim Bridenstine. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → In Which Congressman Lankford Proves Our Point Yesterday, Congressman James Lankford announced his candidacy to replace Senator Coburn in Oklahoma.  Groups like Senate Conservatives’ Fund and Madison Project (my day-job employer) pointed out that Lankford has gone along with the establishment leadership in the House on a number of critical votes and that he’d offer more of the same in the Senate.  They called on Congressman Jim Bridenstine to get in the race.  Local conservatives also appear to be pushing Jim to run for Senate.  Erick has also called on Jim to run for the seat. Lankford’s response is both peculiar and telling. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → Marching for Life Next week is the RNC Winter Meeting, and this time around it’s being held in Washington, D.C. As many RedState readers know, that coincides with the annual March for Life. As a proud pro-life Republican, I saw this as a great opportunity for us to participate in this meaningful event. So we adjusted the schedule and pushed back our meetings and official business to allow our members who want to participate to join in the march. We even rented a bus so that they can get to the rally. The march is a much more important cause; business can wait.
