Dear Friend,

Let me begin by congratulating Destiny Dawn Gregory (pictured below with her father) as she assumes command of Vernon High School’s JROTC program after only a year and a half in the program. She is the first Asian-American to receive the title of Cadet Battalion Commander for the program. I met Destiny during my most recent Academy Day event in the district, and she is an exceptional young leader. I wish her luck with her future successes within the JROTC program.

Mexico Beach recently celebrated Florida’s Arbor Day by giving its residents a free tree. Officials gave citizens 100 trees of different varieties to rebuild the tree population in the community after the devastation of Hurricane Michael. City Administrator Doug Baber said he can’t wait to see these trees grow around the city over the years. These trees will help absorb some of the water in the area and provide shade for the community.  Read more here.
