Dear Friend, 

The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes colder weather, family time, and presents. But rather than focusing on the receiving, consider what you could give to your community. It could be as simple as opening the door for strangers or volunteering at a local food pantry. Whatever it is, find a way to make someone’s holiday season brighter and keep the positivity going.

Here are some good news stories to get you in the holiday spirit -

One Panama City resident fed 100 people on Thanksgiving Day after realizing they wouldn’t receive a Thanksgiving meal. Ginnie Maceluch’s stepmother lives in the St. Andrews Towers. When Maceluch heard there would not be a Thanksgiving meal for residents, she decided to make one for everyone. Over the past three weeks, Maceluch bought several turkeys in preparation. She also cooked sweet potatoes, green beans, mashed potatoes, and other sides. Read more here

More than 200 people attended the afternoon get-together at Northside Community Center two weekends ago. The first-time event was part reunion, part celebration, and part homage. A cake with the inscription "TPD Legacy of Heroes" was front and center on a table that featured an array of desserts and barbecue-type foods. A slide show and moment of silence paid tribute to fallen TPD officers over the years, including Sgt. Dale Green and Christopher Fariello. Read more here

A longtime Levy County cattleman will soon find his name amongst other distinguished individuals in the agricultural industry. Earlier this month, Don Quincey, owner of Quincey Cattle Company in Chiefland, was one of two individuals announced by Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried and the Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame as 2023 Florida Agricultural Hall of Fame inductees. He was nominated by a handful of leaders of several organizations. Read more here.
