NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend, The Biden Administration thinks they know what’s best for you.
They tried to control you during the COVID-19 pandemic, and now, they are creating a “Disinformation Governance Board” under the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Yes, the same administration that continues to churn out failed policy after failed policy wants to determine what information threatens the security of the American people. DHS should be focused on securing our southern border and stopping the Fentanyl epidemic, not this Orwellian nightmare.
My Republican colleagues and I sent a letter to DHS Secretary Mayorkas demanding answers regarding the establishment of the Disinformation Governance Board. Here’s what we asked: - Under what legal authority is DHS creating this Disinformation Governance Board?
- What is the Board’s specific directive and mission? What authorities will it have under the Department?
- How does this Board help DHS protect the homeland from threats? Why is DHS putting valuable resources toward a mission that it appears to have no equity in when there is an ongoing crisis at our southern border?
- Why was Ms. Jankowicz chosen to head this Board? Who were the other candidates considered for this position? What qualifications and vetting procedures did the Department utilize when determining who would head up the Disinformation Governance Board?
In addition to this partisan power grab, the Left undermined the integrity of the U.S. Supreme Court this past week when a staffer leaked a drafted court opinion regarding the overturning of Roe V. Wade. This sets a VERY dangerous precedent. The court shares these opinions with each other as a way of having a civil discussion before landing on the final decision. Not only does this leak stir up hysteria, but it also allows the Left to intimidate our Supreme Court Justices. This is not acceptable.
I am a man of God. I know life begins at conception, and I’ve spent my time in office fighting for unborn babies that cannot speak for themselves. Justice Alito made several strong points in his drafted opinion; however, this may not be the final opinion. We must wait and pray that SCOTUS makes the right decision – not a decision they were bullied into making. Please read about my week below:
A Recap of My Week Updates from Federal Agencies
Before I continue telling you about my week, I want to take a moment to honor the lives of two of Calhoun County’s finest. Earlier this week, the unthinkable happened when a plane crashed killing Lt. Randy McCroan and Steve Mears, Jr. and severely injuring two others. Lt. McCroan had just finished his last day as a School Resource Officer and was looking forward to retirement. This tragedy has rocked the community and the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.
Please join me in praying for the families of these two gentlemen, the community, the Sheriff’s Office, and for the recovery of the two others involved in the crash.
A Recap of My Week Price Transparency Roundtable
I recently sat down with some of my colleagues from the House Energy and Commerce Committee and advocates from Power of the Patients for a roundtable discussion regarding prescription price transparency. Several life-saving treatments are too costly for the average American. I’ve met constituents on fixed incomes who struggle to get their necessary medication. I’m grateful for this thoughtful discussion about how we can help make these treatments more affordable.
Bills I’m Cosponsoring - The REPAIR Act (H.R. 6570) – A bill that would give consumers - including the rural communities in our district - secure access to critical data so the service center of their choosing can replace parts and repair their vehicles.
- H.R. 7570 – A bill to ensure that servicemembers involuntarily separated from the Armed Forces solely based on refusing to receive COVID-19 vaccinations are not punished because of their medical or moral decisions. This bill guarantees that these brave men and women receive the benefits they are otherwise eligible for and may continue to serve our country.
- H.J.Res. 86– A Congressional Review Act Joint Resolution of Disapproval (CRA), which would prohibit the Department of Justice from implementing President Biden’s new rule to expand firearms definitions.

Update from the IRS
The Internal Revenue Service reminded taxpayers today that May includes National Hurricane Preparedness Week and is National Wildfire Awareness Month. This is a good time to create or review an emergency preparedness plan, including steps to protect important tax-related information.
In 2021, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) declared major disasters following hurricanes, tropical storms, tornados, severe storms, straight-line winds, flooding, landslides and mudslides, wildfires, and winter storms. Given the impact these events can have on individuals, organizations, and businesses, now is the time to make or update an emergency plan. Click here for tips to prepare for a natural disaster.
More Tips for Hurricane Preparedness
Hurricanes are not just a coastal problem. Rain, wind, water, and even tornadoes could happen far inland from where a hurricane or tropical storm makes landfall. Here is some helpful information to help you start preparing now.

| Constituent Casework Corner
A constituent contacted my office in a panic the day before they were scheduled to leave for Greece because they realized their passport was expired. We immediately contacted the Miami Passport Agency and had an appointment scheduled in time for the constituent to make their flight later that day. Do you need help with a federal agency?
