This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Wednesday, I visited El Cilantrillo Restaurant in Orlando. I met with the restaurant’s owners and employees to discuss the high price of food products, staff shortages, and the importance of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan they received. Read more here 


On Wednesday, I visited Scooples Ice Cream Parlor and Harvest Restaurant and Bar, small businesses in The Villages. I also hosted a small business roundtable with nine Sumter County Small Business owners who received Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. My Paycheck Protection Program supported more than 6.1 million jobs in Florida and pumped $50 billion into the state economy. Read more here 



On Wednesday, I published an op-ed on Real Clear Florida explaining how President Biden’s government child allowance caused chaos for working families during the 2022 tax season. Read the op-ed here 


On Thursday, I joined Senator John Boozman (R-AR) in sending a letter to President Joe Biden regarding the administration’s possible plans to use personnel from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to manage the inevitable escalation of the crisis at the southern border once Title 42 is rescinded. On Wednesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling on him to invite Juan Guaidó, the democratically-elected President of the National Assembly of Venezuela, to attend the Summit of the Americas in June. Read more here 



On Tuesday, I urged the Biden Administration to support my Deterring Errant Behavior Risking International Space Act , which “would require sanctions on those responsible for creating dangerous space debris, arguing that efforts to compel Russia and China to refrain from more destructive anti-satellite tests must go beyond diplomacy.” Read more here 


On Tuesday, I joined Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and 45 Senate colleagues in filing an amicus brief in the case of Sackett v. Environmental Protection Agency , calling for the U.S. Supreme Court to examine how much authority the federal government has over states and private citizens to regulate “waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act . On Tuesday, I joined Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC) and Tom Cotton (R-AR) in sending a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland regarding the U.S. Department of Justice’s draft policy statement on “Licensing Negotiations and Remedies for Standards-Essential Patents (SEP) Subject to Fair Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory Terms (F/RAND).” Read more here
