NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

If the Democrats have proven anything in the last few years, it’s that they cannot govern. Even now as they hold the House, the Senate, and the White House, they remain unable to lead this country.

  • Inflation is at a 40-year high and climbing
  • Crime has increased
  • Many children are still not in school five days a week
  • Tax return checks are delayed
  • Many of our allies no longer trust us
  • Our border is being overrun with illegal immigrants
  • Fentanyl deaths are at an all-time high
  • The U.S. Capitol remains closed to constituents

This past week, I spent time with the Republican Conference discussing our priorities for the 118th Congress, beginning in 2023. These priorities include American energy independence, cutting spending, reopening the Capitol, securing our Southern border, and bolstering our national defense.

You should not be burdened by high prices. You should not have to choose between putting food on your table and buying enough gas to get to work. And you should not have to fear for your safety and the safety of your loved ones. It’s time for real solutions that help hardworking Americans thrive.

What’s Happening on Capitol Hill
Bills I’m Cosponsoring

The Employee Rights Act – This bill will allow Republicans to advocate for concrete worker policies and strike a contrast with the PRO Act including the following provisions:

  • Guarantee workers a secret ballot election for union certification
  • Protects employee privacy by limiting the contact information that employers must disclose to union organizers
  • Protects union dues from being used for political purposes
  • Penalizes undue election interference by unions, in contrast with the current one-sided system of penalties.

The Small-Scale LNG Act (H.R.7115) - The bill would provide certainty for domestic natural gas producers, ensure the continuation of expedited approvals, and encourage American energy independence. Now more than ever, America needs energy options and independence.

Letters I’ve Signed Onto

I recently signed Representatives Mann’s and Axne’s and Senator Moran’s letter to U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) Chair Jason E. Kearns regarding the supply shortage of fertilizers that’s impacting our farmers. Specifically, the letter urges the ITC to reconsider its decision to place duties on phosphate fertilizer products imported from Morocco and to suspend the current process to impose new duties on urea ammonium nitrate fertilizer from Trinidad and Tobago.

I also signed Western Caucus Chairman Dan Newhouse’s and Agriculture Committee Ranking Member Glen “GT” Thompson’s letter to the Environmental Protection Agency regarding a recent proposal impacting the registration process for new pesticide active ingredients and efforts to mitigate risks to species listed under the Endangered Species Act.

Congratulations, Dr. Jolene Paramore!

Earlier this week, Dr. Jolene Paramore of Panama City was honored by the American Dental Association with the inaugural Excellence in Action for Dental Health Award in Washington, D.C. Dr. Paramore has tirelessly advocated on behalf of dentists and dental students from our district, as well as underserved communities for several years. I’m thrilled to see her hard work recognized by her peers. Congratulations, Dr. Paramore!

The 2022 Congressional Art Competition

My office is now accepting submissions for the 2022 Congressional Art Competition. This competition is open to all high school students, grades 9-12. For schools that house grades k-12 or 6-12, this competition will be open to grades 7-12. There is no specific theme for this year’s competition; however, there are specific guidelines for the size of the artwork, as well as the medium.

The deadline for artwork submissions is Monday, April 25, 2022, at 11:59 PM ET.

The first-place winning art piece will be put on display in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. for one year. The second and third place winning pieces will be put on display in either Congressman Dunn’s Tallahassee District Office or Panama City District Office.

Please review the attached rules and guidelines on our website at: https://dunn.house.gov/art-competition

Constituent Casework Corner

A veteran contacted my office after not receiving three months’ worth of travel reimbursement for healthcare services from the Department of Veterans Affairs. After we contacted the VA, it was determined a system error was preventing the reimbursements from being released to the veteran. The error was quickly fixed, and the veteran promptly received the funds.
