"The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations." —George Washington (1796) It is with eternal gratitude for those who put their lives on the line every day — and those who did not make it home at the end of the day — that we post a tribute to every law enforcement officer (LEO) killed in the line of duty. The Patriot Post maintains an End of Watch page to all our brothers and sisters in blue who have been killed in action. Having spent the early years of my career as a law enforcement officer, I share a strong sense of fraternity with our first responders who serve and protect. With that as a backdrop, on one occasion last year when Democrats could use a dead cop as an agenda prop, they pulled out all the celebratory stops. Likewise, in one case of an unjustifiable shooting by a cop that didn't fit their agenda, they did everything in their power to protect that cop. The Democrat Party and its socialist protagonists have been cop-haters for decades. In May of 2020, they used the unjustifiable death of a criminal thug, George Floyd, as fodder to promote the BIG Lie that our nation was besieged with systemic racism. On that lie, they launched their "defund the police" movement — and painted a target on the backs of LEOs nationwide. What followed was the Demos' burn, loot, and murder "summer of rage" featuring their Marxist so-called "Black Lives Matter" radicals and their antifa movement of self-styled "anti-fascist" fascists. Cops, who form the frontline gauntlet of defenders for persons and property, found themselves the subject of constant condemnation and ridicule, as Demo governors and mayors suppressed their ability to protect the innocent. As the leftist hate-hustling rage was brought to a boil ahead of the 2020 election, even The New York Times noted, "Across 20 major cities, the murder rate at the end of June was on average 37 percent higher than it was at the end of May." Two months later The Wall Street Journal reported that the homicide rate registered "double-digit increases in 36 of 50 biggest cities amid pandemic." The Demos' lies about "systemic racism" had worked. That is one reason why, in the 2020 presidential contest between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, the nation's largest police union, the Fraternal Order of Police, backed Trump. By year's end, the FBI's 2020 crime data report indicated murder rates swelled by 25%, with the number of homicides exceeding 20,000 for the first time since 1995 when Bill Clinton was in office. The Democrats had unleashed a deadly torrent of violence on citizens and on cops — and it was about to get much worse. Indeed, as 2021 came to a close, it proved to be the deadliest year for LEOs since 2011, under the cop-hating administration of Barack Obama. That reality didn't stop Biden from moving forward with his recent executive order for so-called "police reform," making life more dangerous for citizens and cops alike — and he did so when one of the American people's top concerns is crime. That indifference helps explain Biden's basement-dwelling voter approval rating, which is currently the lowest of any president at the end of their first year in 50 years. It also helps explain Gallup's quarterly political party identity poll, which shows the number of people who self-identify as Democrats, and which has plunged since Biden took office — from 49% to 42%. Meanwhile, the number of voters who identify as Republicans grew from 40% to 47%. In one year, that is a net 14-point swing. But there is nothing that exhibits the Demos' disregard for cops more than the fact that, on very rare occasions, they find a deceased officer they can use as a prop because he or she fits their political agenda. Such was the case after the death of Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, whose memory Biden and Nancy Pelosi desecrated by lying about how he died and then placing his body in the Capitol rotunda as a political prop for Pelosi's post-January 6th theatrical "insurrection inquisition." That inquisition is the stage for Biden's "right-wing extremist" delusion. So, in the deadliest year for cops in a decade, apparently Biden and Pelosi deemed no other officer was worthy of high honors and recognition, because no other officer than Brian Sicknick fit their political narrative. In the first month of this year, in the wake of the massive turnout to honor NYPD rookie officer Jason Rivera, who along with his partner, Wilbert Mora, was targeted and murdered last month, Biden and Pelosi have been AWOL, nowhere to be seen or heard on the topic of murderous violence toward cops. Meanwhile, Biden spokes-parrot Jen Psaki laughed off rising crime rates, prompting FOP President Patrick Yoes to call out Psaki: "It's wrong — very wrong — for Ms. Psaki to suggest that violent crime in our country is of no concern or to just laugh it off. The world we find ourselves in is dangerous and is becoming increasingly more so. Tens of thousands of people have been the victims of crime this month alone and some of them never made it back home." Hoping to divert from the fact Biden is also AWOL on crime nationwide, he is set to visit New York City this week. He is endeavoring to distance himself from the Demos' "defund police" platform, but it will be hung around his neck. And what about those rare occasions when a police officer unjustifiably kills a person? Well, if the officer was white and the victim black, batten down the hatches. But if the officer is black and the victim white, move on, nothing to see here. Recall that Pelosi and Chuck Schumer, in another theatrical political charade, kneeled for George Floyd in the Capitol rotunda, using his death as a prop in order to ignite their constituents' "summer of rage." Indeed, the prosecution of the officer involved in Floyd's unjustified death was front-page, above-the-fold news right up until his conviction. But there was one officer-involved shooting last year in which Biden, Pelosi, and Schumer did everything in their power to protect that officer and prevent any investigation of his actions. After an incompetent black Capitol Police Officer, whom we reported to be Lt. Michael Byrd, unjustifiably (by any objective account) shot and killed an unarmed white female, Ashli Babbitt, during the January 6 Capitol riot, the DoJ closed its investigation, as did the DC Metro Police, the primary agency conducting the shooting review, with no standard interview of Byrd. And in stark contrast to all other officer-involved shootings, no details, zero details, have been released about any investigation into Babbitt's death. Again, occasionally Democrats find a dead cop they can honor, and on even more rare occasions they can find and protect a cop who kills the "right" victim. I remain deeply troubled about both the Democrats' desecration of Brian Sicknick and their protection of Michael Byrd. Semper Vigilans Fortis Paratus et Fidelis Pro Deo et Libertate — 1776
