Dear Friend, The 2022 Olympics are wrapping up this weekend, and three of our Olympians from Ocala are bringing home medals. Speedskaters Joey Mantia and Brittany Bowe will be bringing home bronze medals and fellow speedskater and Ocalan Erin Jackson will be bringing home gold. I’m very proud of their accomplishments during this year’s Olympic Games. They’ve done an outstanding job representing the United States, and I know many in our district are ready to give them a warm welcome when they return to the sunshine state. This Valentine’s Day, Cupid got a helping hand as Columbia County Fire Rescue partnered with Columbia City Elementary School students in a collection drive to provide items to the Lake City VA Medical Center. The firefighters collected the items from the school and delivered them on Monday morning. This week is National Salute to Veteran Patients Week and veterans are getting donations from communities throughout the country. Read more here. |
Marianna High School agriculture students recently finished building three picnic tables and three benches for Hinson Conservation and Recreation Area. Many of the students worked overtime to keep the tedious project moving. They also had a hand in Marianna’s pocket park, Lafayette Landing, reconditioned tables at Marianna baseball field, and built shooting houses for Chipola Sportsmen’s Club. Read more here. |
A girl’s desire to save animals is inspiring others in her community to get involved. Nine-year-old Nicolette Lindamood was selling her stuffed animals to donate money to Wakulla County Animal Services. Because of her kindness, people in the community started to match her donation of more than $200. With help from people like Nicolette, the Wakulla County Animal Services can continue to provide safe homes for their furry friends. Read more here. |
