NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

This past week, Speaker Pelosi called the House back to Washington for a vote to raise the debt ceiling. Voting to raise the debt ceiling will enable President Biden and Democrats to fund their $5.5 trillion spending spree package, which is nothing more than a socialist wish list.

What my Democrat colleagues fail to understand is that their actions have real consequences. I’ve heard from constituents who can barely afford their groceries, businesses who can’t afford supplies, and veterans who can’t afford the gas to get to their medical appointments.

Here’s a recap of how much prices have increased:

  • Gasoline is UP 42.1%
  • Used Cars are UP 24.4%
  • Propane, kerosene, and firewood are UP 27.6%
  • Gas Utilities are UP 20.6%
  • Bacon and related products are UP 19.3%
  • Pork is UP 12.7%
  • Beef is UP 12.6%
  • Eggs are UP 12.6%
  • Boys’ and girls’ footwear are UP 11.9%
  • Fresh fish and seafood are UP 10.7%
  • Women’s dresses are UP 9.5%
  • Fresh and frozen chicken parts are UP 8.1%
  • Electricity is UP 5.2%
  • Transportation is UP 4.4%
  • Apparel is UP 3.4%
  • Shelter is UP 3.2%

Our country is hurting because of the Democrats’ outrageous spending, and it will only get worse if they continue to pass these egregious bills.

This Week in the District
Touring NSWC-Panama City

Image

I recently had the opportunity to meet with current leadership at the Panama City Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) to receive a briefing on the status of their core mission areas. The Panama City Division is one of eight surface warfare centers and is part of the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), which is operated by the United States Navy. This team has an impressive operation and I appreciate them for taking the time to meet with me. Here we are examining the latest model of LCAC (Landing Craft Air Cushion).

NATO Parliamentary Assembly 67th Annual Session

Image

Last weekend, I served as the Vice-Chair of the Economic and Security Committee at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly 67th Annual Session. During this session, members of the assembly conducted business, debated key issues, and heard from international leaders on issues of importance to the alliance.

This is a role that I take very seriously and I’m proud to represent both Florida-02 and the United States.

What’s Happening on Capitol Hill
Letter to AG Garland Supporting Parents

Image

I recently joined my Florida colleagues in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland condemning the Department of Justice’s recent directive to deploy federal law enforcement resources in a thinly veiled effort to intimidate and silence parents.

Parents SHOULD have a say in what schools teach their children. They have a constitutional right to speak up. Using the FBI to silence them is unacceptable and wrong.

You can read the full letter here.

It’s Time to Recognize Natural Immunity

Image

This past week, I also joined my colleagues in a letter to the White House and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urging them to recognize the overwhelming data and evidence that COVID-19 natural immunity confers protection at least equal to that from vaccination.

We have overwhelming scientific evidence indicating that prior infection with SARS-CoV-2 does result in substantial immunity. Yet the Biden Administration and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continue to ignore these studies and press on with ineffective mandates rather than embracing the findings and expanding our T-cell immunity testing abilities. This is irresponsible.

We cannot ignore these studies because they do not fit a political narrative. If we are to truly ‘follow the science,’ it’s time to acknowledge the evidence and increase immunity testing while also continuing to encourage vaccinations among those who do not have natural immunity.

Updates for Veterans
Do You Know Anyone In Afghanistan?

August 31st may have been the deadline to leave Afghanistan, but our work isn't done.

There are Americans and allies with pending Special Immigration Visas (SIVs) that have not been evacuated yet, and I will continue to work on their behalf.

If you have relatives, colleagues, friends, or loved ones currently in Afghanistan OR if you’re a veteran or service member in contact with an interpreter stuck in the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) process, please reach out to my office so we can try as best as we can to get them to safety.

Coronavirus Updates
Get Vaccinated

Floridians 12 and up are eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine as prescribed by the Food and Drug Administration. The Pfizer vaccine is authorized for persons age 12 and up. The Moderna vaccine is authorized for persons age 18 and up.

I encourage you to schedule an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine. The State of Florida has partnered with Sharecare to provide an easy-to-use platform that will save your spot for your shot. Schedule your appointment here. Florida has many sites providing the COVID-19 vaccine. Use the vaccine finder to find a site near you. Supplies are limited and appointments may be required.

Monoclonal antibody treatments

Early monoclonal antibody treatment saves lives. Antibodies help the immune system recognize and respond effectively to the virus. According to the treatment guidelines, monoclonal antibody therapy should be administered as soon as possible after diagnosis. Referrals are not required at any of the State of Florida monoclonal antibody treatment sites and treatment is available at no cost to patients.

If you or someone you know has tested positive for COVID-19, visit this link to find locations to receive monoclonal antibody treatment. For more information about the treatments, click here.

Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. If you haven’t already, LIKE my Facebook page. You can also follow me on Twitter @DrNealDunnFL2.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you in Congress!

Constituent Casework Corner

Washington’s frivolous spending is costing America a great deal. We’re now facing the highest consumer spending inflation level since 1991. I’m sure you’re noticing higher gas prices, higher grocery bills, and higher service prices.  Even Dollar Tree is raising its prices! But some of my colleagues don’t see how it’s impacting your families and small businesses. If you have an example of how inflation is impacting you, share your story with me by emailing Shareyourstory.Dunn
@mail.house.gov. Help me show Washington that their irresponsibility is hurting Florida’s Second Congressional District.
