FREEDOM WORKS 04/11/2021

NANCY_EDITED

Conservatives,

As we enter the final stretch of Joe Biden's first 100 days in office, Democrats are going all out to ram through their crown jewel – H.R. 1/S. 1 – better known as The Gag Act.

As we've warned you, this is the Democrats' top priority this Congress and with good reason. If passed, it would throw election integrity out the window and impose draconian free speech restrictions on grassroots activists like you.

That's why we're asking you to please click here to sign your Emergency Gag Act Petition to your U.S. Senators.

After you've taken action, please check out some of the stories we’ve been tracking this week.

If Voter ID Is Racist, Why Is The Left Pushing Vaccine Passports?
anderson

By FreedomWorks Director of Policy Sarah Anderson via The Daily Caller

Bluecheck Twitter never sleeps. When there are bad takes to be had, you can be sure that the left will be ready to pounce. As of late, bluechecks have found a new way to expose themselves as hypocrites by condemning voter identification (ID) laws, yet coming out aggressively in support of proposed “vaccine passports.”

As Georgia was passing an expansive election reform bill, the conversation over voter ID headed in a predictably “woke” direction. Democrats brought up their hackneyed talking point of decrying voter ID laws as racist, nevermind the fact that recent polls show 69% of black voters and 82% of other minorities support voter ID laws. In fact, 75% of Americans believe that photo ID’s for voting are common sense.

States Stand Up to Biden, Put Reagan's 'These' Back In 'These United States'
RONALD_REAGAN

By FreedomWorks Senior Economist Stephen Moore via CNS News

President Ronald Reagan used to refer to our country as "these United States," not "the United States." That may seem to be an inconsequential grammatical difference, but a whole different philosophy of our system of government is embedded in that phraseology. Reagan reinforced the traditional notion of American federalism: that the states created the federal government, not the other way around.

The states are to serve as "laboratories of democracy." Our Founding Fathers' ingeniousness was recognizing that healthy competition among the states was the best way to devise policy solutions.

This brings us to President Joe Biden. No president in modern times, perhaps ever, has shown such contempt for our system of federalism. So I was thrilled to see this headline from, of all places, Alaska: "Dunleavy Tells Feds Alaska Is Taking Over Management of 800,000 Miles of River."

Statehood for DC? Give the Swamp Back to Maryland
Statehood for DC_ Give the swamp back to Maryland

Via Washington Examiner

With Washington, D.C., pushing President Joe Biden and Congress to use their control to make the district a state, with two senators and a House member, the conservative FreedomWorks today announced a solution — give the old swamp back to Maryland. Yellow signs put up around the city by the group proclaim, “Make D.C. Maryland Again.”

“The best, most realistic path to guaranteeing representation for the residents of D.C. includes returning the majority of the District of Columbia back to Maryland,” said FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon.

As part of its “We The People Week” targeting H.R. 1, the Democrat’s controversial election reform package, for defeat, they piggybacked in the anti-statehood campaign in hopes of drawing attention to both local and national efforts to join the city with Maryland as a potential solution.

Time to Define Civics In K-12 Education
Dr. Karen Hiltz- Time to Define Civics in K-12 Education

By Dr. Karen Hiltz Via Florida Daily

According to Merriam-Webster, civics is “a social science dealing with the rights and duties of citizens.” From that definition, it seems pretty clear that children should be taught what being a responsible citizen is all about. They should learn the basics of the founding of our nation and how our government is structured, including reading the founding documents that provided the genesis to our constitutional republic. They need instruction that informs them there are three branches of government as well as federal, state and local levels.

So why do progressives want to rename the subject to action civics or civic engagement? Do they want to cancel American culture? Call me skeptical, but I believe there is an ongoing effort to continue to take advantage of the situation. Remember a statement saying something like never let a crisis go to waste? Our republic has been enduring a virus that shut down our economy, schools, businesses, and quite frankly, our lives.

Janet Yellen Is Serious, and That's Really Sad
janet

By Director of FreedomWorks Center for Economic Freedom John Tamny via Real Clear Markets

President Biden’s Treasury secretary. Without anything remotely resembling a smirk, or a wink, Yellen called for politicians around the world to band together on corporate taxes. She seeks equality when it comes to tax rates. In Yellen’s words, “Together, we can use a global minimum tax to make sure the global economy thrives based on a level playing field in the taxation of multinational corporations.” Yellen was serious.

Where do we begin? Up front, Yellen’s implicit acknowledgement is that members of the American right were correct all along. Businesses are people, and people respond to tax rates. If they become too onerous, people migrate away from them. It turns out people are mobile, which means corporations are.

REGULATION ALERT

FreedomWorks Foundation Submits Comments on Intellectual Property Rights
FreedomWorks Foundation Submits Comments on Intellectual Property Rights

Vice President Kamala Harris has expressed support for using march-in as a method to impose strict price controls on pharmaceuticals and other healthcare products. This proposed rule would affirm Congress' intent that march-in rights are not intended to be used to create price controls, as well as provide more regulatory clarity around Bayh-Dole's implementation.

Panel of Prominent Black Leaders Blasts HR 1 and the Left's 'Racism of Low Expectations'
Panel of Prominent Black Leaders Blasts HR 1 and the Left's ?Racism of Low Expectations?

Via Townhall

This week, a panel of black community leaders hosted a webinar decrying the ‘For the People Act,' along with the deceitful and harmful rhetoric Democrats have used to characterize the bill. Presented by FreedomWorks, one of the nation’s largest grassroots organizations advocating for conservative principals, the six-person discussion focused on the panelist’s own lived experience with the horrors of Jim Crow, while also condemning HR 1 and the left’s dishonest presentation of the bill. HR 1, or the ‘For the People Act’, has been presented to the American public as a civil rights bill aimed toward expanding voting and preventing the passage of many so-called voter restriction laws that are currently being proposed and adopted in states across the nation.

However, as each panelist pointed out, HR 1 does the exact opposite of strengthening civil rights protections, with one panelist going as far as to dub the bill the “Screw the People Act.” Whether it’s the abolishment of voter ID laws, the legalization of ballot harvesting, or any number of other damning criticisms, HR 1 is not the civil rights bill that Democrats are currently attempting to sell to the American people. Reverend C.L. Bryant, FreedomWorks’ Senior Fellow and host of the virtual gathering, began the seminar by pushing back against the fictional narrative the left Is attempting to create.
