It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since the COVID-19 pandemic took over the U.S. We’ve come so far in a year. We now have three approved vaccines, several successful treatment options, and the infection rate is dropping. To finally defeat this virus, we must continue to stay positive. Here are a few stories that will help you through the week –

Governor Ron DeSantis announced more than $4.6 million in state Rural Infrastructure Fund awards for North Florida communities devastated by Hurricane Michael. This is outstanding news for our communities that were heavily impacted by the devastating storm. Click here to find out what cities and counties are receiving funding.

A year ago, Jim Osburn, was fighting for his life while a team of staff members from Lake City Middle School worked feverishly to keep him alive after he was involved in a workplace accident. Last week, during the Columbia County School Board meeting, the employees whose heroic efforts saved Osburn’s life were recognized for their quick actions and lifesaving techniques. Read the full story here.

Monticello News recently shared a piece that asked small children to share things they know to be true. My personal favorite of the 41 great truths is “Sometimes your best move is blocked by your own checkers.” I hope that these bring a smile to your face.
