GOP House Leader McCarthy rejects impeachment, favors censure

HeadlineGOP Leader Kevin McCarthy Rejects Impeachment, Floats ‘Censure’ Over Capitol Riot

What's Up: Speaker Pelosi appears to be unwavering in her push to impeach President Trump again. The process will begin in the House of Representatives later today. The minority leader, Kevin McCarthy, joins most Republican House members in rejecting another impeachment, instead favoring a vote to "censure" President Trump.

Quote: "Personally, I continue to believe that an impeachment at this time would have the opposite effect of bringing our country together when we need to get American back on a path towards unity and civility. Notwithstanding the Speaker’s push towards impeachment, I have heard from members across our conference who have raised at least four potential avenues available to the House to ensure that the events of January 6 are rightfully denounced and prevented from occurring in the future." — GOP Leader McCarthy.com

The First take: We're looking for a silver lining in all of this. We predict the math scores of American students will rise under the leadership of Democrats. After all, they appear to be very good at division. (See what we did there?)

NY Gov Cuomo sounds a lot like President Trump - wants NY to open

HeadlineAfter Forcing Thousands Of Businesses To Shut Down, Cuomo Now Says The ‘Cost’ Of Staying Closed Is ‘Too High’

What's Up: New York's Governor Cuomo surprised many when he announced an about-face on business closings, finally acknowledging his administration's lockdowns are killing more businesses and hurting more people than the virus.

Quote: "As recently as December Cuomo announced that all indoor dining in New York City would be banned, claiming the risk associated with the practice was 'too high.' Data from the governor’s office, however, showed that restaurants and bars have led to 1.4% of all COVID-19 cases in the state.” — DailyCaller.com

The First take: Gee, we wonder where the governor heard that the "cure can't be worse than the virus?" Oh, that's right... President Trump has been saying this in one form or another since the earliest days of the pandemic. Welcome to reality, Governor Cuomo. Now, open the schools, restaurants, theaters, etc.

FBI memo warns of armed attacks on state capitals if Trump removed

HeadlineFBI internal memo warns of nationwide armed protests ahead of Biden inauguration

What's Up: A leaked internal FBI memo is warning state capitols to be on alert for possible armed attacks if President Trump is removed from office ahead of Joe Biden's inauguration.

Quote: "'The FBI received information about an identified armed group intending to travel to Washington, DC on 16 January,' The bulletin read, according to reports. 'They have warned that if Congress attempts to remove POTUS via the 25th Amendment, a huge uprising will occur.'" — WashingtonTimes.com

The First take: First of all, who is leaking memos like this? We notice the memo says the FBI has information about an "identified" group. If we know who they are, don't we also know WHERE they are? And doesn't the public deserve to know?

Facebook to employees: Don't wear company logos in public

HeadlineFollowing Trump Ban, Facebook Tells Employees to Avoid Wearing Company-Branded Apparel

What's Up: Following last week's riot at the US Capitol and Facebook's announcement they were purging the site of anything to do with the phrase "stop the steal," the social media giant is telling employees not to display branded items.

Quote: "'In light of recent events, and to err on the side of caution, global security is encouraging everyone to avoid wearing or carrying Facebook-branded items at this time,' Facebook told employees in an internal memo." —  Via Facebook

The First take: We hate to say, "We told you so!" But, we told you so... When the very first attack on someone wearing a MAGA hat happened, we were concerned that encouraging or allowing this type of behavior will eventually boomerang. Now, if we could only predict the lottery numbers as accurately as we saw this.
