Justice Alito sounds the alarm over our acceptance of limits on liberty

HeadlineJustice Alito warns coronavirus restrictions shouldn't outlast the pandemic

What's Up: On Thursday, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito addressed the conservative Federalist Society and sounded the alarm on American liberties being encroached upon in the name of public health in the time of the pandemic.

Quote: "The pandemic has resulted in previously unimaginable restrictions on individual liberty." — Alito

The First take:  Very public addresses by SCOTUS justices are not exactly a regular thing. That's why we suggest Justice Alito's entire address is worth your time. We find it comforting to know a justice believes strongly in protecting the individual and the rights enshrined in our Constitution, pandemic or no pandemic. This could also signal where he might vote if any pandemic-related cases reach the top court.

California set to reopen strip clubs before churches

HeadlineCalifornia Set to Reopen Strip Clubs Before Churches

What's Up: A judge in California has ruled adult entertainment in strip clubs is considered to be protected speech and cannot be shut down, even in the middle of a pandemic.

Quote: "'If you're going to accept that argument that dancing nude is protected speech that's so significant that it overcomes the government's interest in regulating its citizens with COVID-19 orders, then obviously the divine worship of God, which is expressly mentioned in the First Amendment, should be held to a higher standard,' Paul Jonna said." — FreeBeacon.com

The First take: This is possibly the "most California" pandemic story ever. Especially when you consider what's happening in California: Thanksgiving with the family is considered too dangerous; attending Church (or any religious event) is too dangerous as well. Being able to "make it rain" at the strip club while FiFi La Boom Boom is on the main stage... that's just fine.

Marxist-trained BLM founder demands meeting with Biden

HeadlinePay Up, Joe: BLM's Trained Marxist Founder Tells Biden, 'We Want Something for Our Vote'

What's Up: Joe Biden has not been certified the official winner of one single state, but the political bills are starting to roll in. One of the most controversial groups expecting to have influence with a Biden administration would be Black Lives Matter. BLM's co-founder, Patrisse Cullors, is making it known the group believes it was their support that pushed Biden across the finish line and that support has a price tag.

Quote: "Cullors wrote in a letter to Biden and Kamala Harris on Saturday, 'Without the resounding support of Black people, we would be saddled with a very different electoral outcome… In short, Black people won this election.'" — PJMedia.com

The First take: We believe the Black Lives Matter voter was more likely to vote for Joe Biden than Donald Trump. However, we also are fairly confident  the group's very public claims could do more damage to Democrat hopes in the upcoming Senate runoff elections in Georgia. Biden's people may eventually give legitimacy to the BLM leaders, we're just betting Biden wished they would stay quiet for another 53 days.

Rich guy takes four COVID tests in one day - Two positive, Two negative

HeadlineElon Musk: I Got A COVID Test Four Times In One Day. ‘Two Came Back Negative, Two Came Back Positive.’

What's Up: Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk's COVID-19 testing experience brings the testing system's inconsistencies into the spotlight as the country is reporting record numbers of new cases of the virus every day this week.

Quote: "'Something extremely bogus is going on. Was tested for covid four times today. Two tests came back negative, two came back positive. Same machine, same test, same nurse. Rapid antigen test from BD,' Musk tweeted on Thursday." — DailyWire.com

The First take: We echo Musk's concerns when he states, "If it's happening to me, it's happening to others." Some reports claim the testing systems are regularly generating 40% false results. So, as the debate over another government ordered shutdown rages, we hope our leaders demand more reliable data before making such a serious call, again.
