UP FIRST 11/05/2020

First look:

  • Major error found in Arizona vote count -- will it matter?
  • Biden has multiple paths to 270 Electoral votes, Trump is limited
  • Philly releases bodycam video, 911 calls in Walter Wallace shooting
  • Rudy Giuliani, Eric Trump allege massive voter fraud in PA, vow suits

Major error found in Arizona results

HeadlineMajor error found in Arizona results

What's Up: The error revolves around the percentage of the vote that had been counted. And it's significant: 98% vs 86%. Considering the fact that the Biden campaign was claiming a "flip" of Arizona, the typically "red" state appeared to have sealed a victory for the former VP. But now it loos like there's at least a CHANCE that's not so.

Quote: "Data said 98% of votes had been counted; only 86% was actually counted." — NYPost.com

The First take: The moment an error was discovered in the reporting of the votes in Arizona, several news outlets (ABC, CNN and the New York Times) moved that state from Biden's column to "undecided." The Fox News channel and the Wall Street Journal (corporate family members) have not altered their calls. Why not, since the initial reporting was based on flawed data? We believe a correction is warranted.

Biden has multiple paths to 270 Electoral votes -- Trump, not so much

HeadlineBiden has multiple paths to 270 as vote counts tighten

What's Up: While Democrat Joe Biden and President Trump are both holding out hopes to win the 2020 election, Mr. Biden has a few more options than the president. Mr. Trump needs momentum to shift in Arizona and Nevada while hanging on to his shrinking lead in Pennsylvania. Joe Biden really only needs a single state to fall his way and the contest is over.

Quote: "Trump's campaign has also insisted that he has a path to victory in Arizona, rebutting earlier decisions by Fox News and The Associated Press to call the race for Biden." — TheHill.com

The First take: We understand the need and obligation for any candidate to demand a re-count in states where the margin of victory is under one percent.  What we cannot wrap our heads around is the amount of time required to do what we have been doing for hundreds of years -- COUNT THE VOTES! We are one of the most technologically-advanced nations on the planet and we're still waiting on ballots to be counted two days after the election?

Philly police release bodycam video, 911 calls in Walter Wallace shooting

HeadlineBodycam video, 911 calls released in Walter Wallace police shooting

What's Up: Almost two weeks after a deadly police shooting in Philadelphia triggered several nights of protests and looting, the 911 calls and bodycam video from the incident have been released to the public.

Quote: "The real violence was perpetrated by a knife-wielding man, who confronted our police officers,” FOP President John McNesby said in a statement. “These officers followed their training and police department policy. It’s completely inappropriate that these officers continue to be vilified for doing their job." — Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police statement

The First take: We're pleased that the calls and video have been released. They expose the full details around the tragic encounter that ended with police shooting a knife-wielding man who charged officers after he had been threatening his family. Imagine if this video had been released the day after Walter Wallace was shot. Perhaps all of that violence and looting could have been avoided.

Rudy Giuliani, Eric Trump allege voter fraud in PA, vow lawsuits

Headline: "This isn’t democracy": Eric Trump and Giuliani allege voter fraud in PA, vow lawsuits

What's Up: President Trump's son Eric and his lawyer Rudy Giuliani traveled to  Philadelphia to hold a press conference accusing Pennsylvania's election officials and the elected officials in the Keystone state of trying to steal the election from Donald Trump.

Quote: "'We’re going to win Pennsylvania, but they’re trying to cheat us out of it because they know it’s their only path to victory,' said Eric Trump." — DailyWire.com

The First take: At the center of the Trump legal team's argument is the PA election officials preventing legitimate observers from monitoring the actions of the ballot counters. We thought the Democratic Party was the party claiming transparency was vital to achieving trust in government. It feels like we're being told "Nothing to see here...we'll call you when we're done." We go back to Reagan's "Trust, but verify" mantra.
