U.S. Sen. Rick Scott Honors Veterans Day

In honor of Veterans Day, Senator Rick Scott is proud to recognize the brave men and women in uniform who have served our nation and fought to protect our many freedoms. Members of our Armed Forces truly represent the best of what it means to be an American and a Floridian - none of the opportunities and freedoms we have as Americans would be possible without their dedicated service

.

Throughout his time as Governor of Florida, Senator Rick Scott made it his mission to make Florida the most military and veteran-friendly state in the nation so our veterans, military members and their families can succeed. As U.S. Senator and a member of the Armed Services Committee, fighting for our heroes continues to be a top priority for Senator Scott, and he will always work to make sure our military members, veterans and their families have every resource they need to keep the nation safe and pursue their dreams in the Sunshine State.

Sen. Scott Joins Colleagues in Introducing Bill to Connect Military Members with Helpful Resources for Transitioning out of Service

On October 2, 2020, Senators Rick Scott and Catherine Cortez Masto introduced bipartisan legislation to connect military members separating from service with veteran service officers. The Know Your Vets Act of 2020 would direct the Secretary of Defense to provide service members separating from the military the option to share their name and contact information with all appropriate accredited VSOs based on the post-separation mailing address the service member provides.

Senator Rick Scott said, “As the son of a World War II veteran and a Navy veteran myself, I understand the challenges faced by our military members transitioning back to civilian life. These men and women dedicated their lives to serving our nation and protecting our way of life, and we should do everything we can to support them during and after their active service."

Sen. Rick Scott in The Ripon Forum: I Will Always Work to Support Those Who Protect and Serve Our Nation

On Monday, ahead of Veterans Day on November 11, Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for The Ripon Forum about one of his most important roles as U.S. Senator: to protect and serve the families of our nation. Senator Rick Scott is a Navy veteran, and currently serves on the Senate Committees on Armed Services and Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “I am who I am today because of my tough-love mom and my adopted dad. They lived a hard life – we grew up poor and my parents struggled to find work – but they loved this country and worked tirelessly to give their children a better life. They are my heroes.

My adopted dad joined the Army as a teenager and was one of the few who did all four combat jumps with the 82nd Airborne during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. What he and our brave men and women in uniform did to protect the freedoms we enjoy is awe-inspiring. And we can never forget their accomplishments.

As a U.S. Senator and member of the Armed Services Committee, I’m continuing the fight to ensure that Florida remains a national leader for military and defense and that our veterans, military members and their families are provided the support they need to keep the nation safe and to succeed even after their service.

I won’t let those on the radical Left distract us from the values that make America great. The values that my mom taught me. And it is my hope that we never forget that the primary goal of government is to provide for the common defense, so our children and grandchildren can live in freedom and peace – and have their shot at the American dream.

To our veterans – thank you for your service to our great nation. I applaud your bravery and courage. I will never lose sight of one the most important roles I have: to protect and serve the families of our nation."
