This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Wednesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I sent a letter to President Trump in support of Governor Ron DeSantis’ request to issue a pre-landfall emergency declaration for Alachua, Citrus, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hernando, Hillsborough, Levy, Manatee, Marion, Pasco, Pinellas, Sarasota, and Sumter counties in expectation of Eta. On Thursday, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I released a video message calling for Democrats to stop playing partisan games and pass small business relief immediately. Watch the video here

  

On Tuesday, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I sent a letter to Steven Mnuchin, Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and Jovita Carranza, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), urging the agencies to provide the Committee with information related to the loan review and forgiveness procedures that will be used to audit Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans. On Thursday, as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, I sent a letter to Jovita Carranza, Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), requesting information from the agency following a recent Inspector General report that found billions of dollars in potential fraud in the expanded Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program for COVID-19. On Thursday, I welcomed an Executive Order by President Trump to prohibit U.S. investments in Chinese firms that are on the U.S. Department of Defense list of Communist Chinese military companies. The move closely resembles legislation that I introduced last month. Read more here.

  

On Tuesday, Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ron Johnson (R-WI), Mike Braun (R-IN) and I joined in support of the Securing Our Elections Act , introduced earlier this year by Kelly Loeffler (R-GA). The legislation would help to ensure fair elections and increase criminal penalties for bad actors who attempt to interfere with America’s election system, whether that be through illegal and fraudulent ballot harvesting, voter intimidation or identification theft.
