Sen. Rick Scott Meets with Supreme Court Nominee Amy Coney Barrett

On Tuesday, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following a meeting with Associate Justice Nominee for the United States Supreme Court, Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I was honored to meet with Judge Amy Coney Barrett today to hear more about her judicial philosophy, and I fully support her nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. Amy Coney Barrett has a distinguished record of service to our nation, respects the separate roles of our three branches of government and will apply and follow the law as-written, not legislate from the bench. She is highly qualified, and I look forward to the Senate moving swiftly to confirm her to the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Sen. Rick Scott Statement on President Trump’s Nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court

Last week, Senator Rick Scott released the following statement applauding President Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court.

Senator Rick Scott said, “I applaud President Trump’s nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. I am one of the few senators who has appointed people to the bench, and I believe in selecting candidates who respect the separation of powers and the proper role of the judiciary in our democratic system. Their job isn’t to make policy – it is to uphold the rule of law.

"Amy Coney Barrett has a distinguished record of service to our nation, respects the separate roles of our three branches of government and will apply and follow the law as-written, not legislate from the bench. I look forward to meeting with her to hear more about her judicial philosophy and her views on the important legal issues of our time. And I hope the Senate can move swiftly to hold a vote to confirm her to the Supreme Court."

Sen. Rick Scott in USA Today: Democrats, not Republicans, are hypocrites on filling SCOTUS seat

In case you missed it, Senator Rick Scott wrote an op-ed for USA Today highlighting the inconsistencies of Democratic opposition in filling the SCOTUS seat.

In the op-ed, Senator Rick Scott wrote, “In the closing paragraph of former President Obama’s 2020 statement, he says unequivocally that “A basic principle of the law — and of everyday fairness — is that we apply rules with consistency, and not based on what’s convenient or advantageous in the moment.” He, no doubt, intended these words to be directed at Republicans, but it’s the Democrats whose arguments are dripping with hypocrisy. They’re changing their tune for partisan purposes and threatening to block a Supreme Court nomination without even knowing who the nominee will be. Elections have consequences. The American people elected President Trump and a Republican Senate knowing full-well that multiple seats on the Supreme Court could be at stake. What we’re doing is exactly what the voters and the constitution prescribed. If Senate Democrats don’t like that, win more elections."
