GOOD NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,
With Coronavirus numbers climbing, it’s hard to stay positive. I’ve compiled some good news from our district to help you feel a sense of hope rolling into the weekend.
I want to begin with one of my favorite stories that went viral this week. Katie Ricca, a first-grade teacher from North Bay Haven, has been holding virtual story time for her students during the quarantine. Ricca noticed that one of her students was acting a bit out of the ordinary. She later discovered that the student was missing her classmates and teacher. Katie Ricca took it upon herself to visit the student so she could read to her in-person. Don’t worry! She sat outside at a safe 6-foot distance from her student to ensure their safety. You can read the FULL story here.
I’ve been so inspired by our teachers and parents who have done what they can to adapt to these difficult times. But I’ve even more inspired by our bright students and their creativity. For instance, 10-year-old Madden Kendrick of Eastpoint, FL has donated hook devices that he created on a 3D printer to Weems Memorial Hospital.
10-year-old Jacob Mayfield of Buck Lake Elementary and his family joined in on the creativity. Jacob’s school project actually expanded into the creation of innovative masks with the help of Southeastern Plastic Surgery. You can read that FULL story here.
I can’t thank you all enough for the generosity displayed throughout the past month. So many of you gladly answered the call to donate supplies to local healthcare professionals. Word cannot express how proud I am of our communities.
Our essential workers, healthcare personnel, and first responders also deserve a huge amount of thanks for their selfless hard work to help us through this difficult time. You all have been real-life superheroes. Thank you!
