NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT
Dear Friend,On Wednesday night, the House Democrats' groundless, secretive and arbitrary attempt to undo the 2016 election results culminated in a blatantly partisan vote to impeach President Trump. They pursued this heinous act with the willing help of corrupt leaders in the FBI, DOJ, State Department, and the majority of our national media. While the vote to impeach our legitimate President was shameful, I am happy to share news of funding for Tyndall Air Force Base, Disaster Tax Relief, additional Disaster Relief funds for 2018 and 2019 and excellent discussions I had recently with White House officials at Camp David.
Please read about my week below:

House Democrats have wasted three solid years attempting to impeach President Trump. They held secretive hearings behind closed doors that were extremely unfair and did not allow the public to know anything about those proceedings except the biased and unfounded leaks provided by Chairman Adam Schiff himself. Their witnesses offered no evidence that President Trump is guilty of the articles of impeachment leveled against him. They then brought the vote to the entire House Floor, and impeached President Trump with zero Republican votes. Two Democrats voted against the Articles and one even changed parties.
As I write this, Speaker Pelosi is further dishonoring the Constitution by refusing to forward the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate. She hopes to keep the Impeachment process twisting in the wind and in front of her pet news cameras for a few more months as we approach a momentous election. There is zero chance the Senate will convict the President and the entire process has been an embarrassment to the Democratic party which will surely suffer in the November elections next year. This process has lacked transparency, evidence, and fairness. All respect for the rule of law was abandoned by the Democrat leadership in the House. It has been a shameful witch hunt. Despite House Democrats' political theater, I look forward to working on the issues that my constituents care about and discussing those things at home and in Washington. Funding Tyndall Air Force BaseEarlier this year, we secured $1 billion in emergency Military Construction funds for Tyndall Air Force Base in FY 2019. That was critical to rebuilding of the base following the utter destruction caused by Hurricane Michael. In the Military Construction Appropriations bill we passed Wednesday, the Air Force received an additional $2.4 billion to aid the rebuilding of the base in FY 2020. This brings the total funding for construction at Tyndall to $3.4 billion, which ensures that Tyndall will be rebuilt as a 21st Century base ready for future missions throughout this century. I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment and look forward to continuing to support our Airmen and the base's growing operations and capabilities. Disaster Tax ReliefThis week, as a part of our FY 2020 appropriations bill, the House passed tax extenders and disaster tax relief. The passage of these crucial tax extenders is a big win for Hurricane Michael victims who are still picking up the pieces more than a year later. We finally got routine disaster tax relief across the finish line one year after filing my emergency bill. This important legislation allows disaster victims to access money they have saved over the years without facing penalties, allows deductions without itemizing and appraisals, and temporarily suspends limitations on charitable contributions to our area that are associated with hurricane relief. We still have a lot of rebuilding to do in the Panhandle, but the passage of this tax relief is an important part of the process.
Camp DavidLast week, I spent time at the historic presidential retreat site, Camp David. I joined The White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and other White House officials to discuss both the successes under President Trump as well as the legislative year ahead. Our economy has seen record low unemployment and enormous growth in job creation, wages, and success of our small businesses -- despite Democrats ignoring these important issues in their monomaniacal dash to impeach President Trump.
We will continue to see strong growth in trade and GDP with the passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the countless opportunities it will create for Florida's workers. Economists predict we will add another 1 – 1.5% to GDP just because of the USMCA.
While we gathered to reflect on and understand both our victories and our defeats in the last year, we also mapped a plan for all we want to accomplish in the year ahead. Meanwhile, the Democrats remain stewing in their anger, focused only on their discontent with the 2016 election and the reality that the American people actually do have greater security, opportunity, and prosperity under President Trump. My colleagues and I will continue to work closely with the Trump Administration as we did last weekend to deliver legislation that creates tangibly positive impacts for our constituents at home.
Honoring James Montgomery

It was a great privilege to stand on the House Floor this week and honor the life of Mr. James Montgomery. Mr. Montgomery, or "Mr. Mont" of Lake City, passed away at the age of 86. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 and went on to teach students at several schools in Lake City. We are so fortunate to have benefitted from the 60 years that Mr. Montgomery dedicated to educating our youth and serving as a role model. Not only did he give his time to our students, but also taught Sunday School classes and sang in the choir at First Presbyterian Church, served as County Commissioner for 28 years, and was on the North Florida Regional Council for 27 years. His legacy and impact will never be forgotten.
MERRY CHRISTMAS This is the time of year we set aside as a nation to reflect on the importance of love, tolerance, forgiveness, and the great inner rewards attending generous sharing of our blessings. It does not matter what religion, race, or nationality we are, these fundamental underlying beliefs are universal. It is good that we reflect on these virtues as a nation and in our communities. Leah and I are looking forward to spending time with family and friends and most especially our grandchildren. To us, they symbolize America’s future, so that future is very real and very important on a deeply personal level.
May God Bless everyone!

Constituent Casework Corner
After a year of trying to work with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and submitting the requested documentation three different times to have their appeal processed, a constituent contacted my office. We were able to work with FEMA to have the appeal escalated and processed within a few days.
