Trump Cancels North Korea Summit

President Donald Trump has canceled his planned summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un, citing the "tremendous anger and open hostility" in recent statements from Pyongyang. Trump announced the decision to call off the June 12 meeting on Twitter, where he released his letter to Kim, saying he felt it was "inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting." North Korea hardened its rhetoric toward the U.S. earlier Thursday, warning it was ready for a "nuclear-to-nuclear" showdown if the U.S. didn’t follow through on the summit. Trump wrote that while the North Koreans talk about their nuclear capabilities, ... Read More

House GOP Scrambles for Immigration Compromise Amid Rebellion

House Republican leaders will be back at the negotiating table Thursday in an effort to hammer out a compromise on immigration between moderates and conservatives amid a rebellion that's four votes away from forcing their hands. Speaker Paul Ryan has temporarily fended off the advance of the discharge petition launched by moderate Republicans, thanks to the bloc of conservatives who want nothing to do with protections for illegal immigrants let alone an insurrection within their own party that could force a vote on the matter. However, Minnesota Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen on Wednesday became the 204th signatory on the petition, meaning ... Read More

Obama Advisers Sought to 'Tap People's Emotions' for Gun-control Push after Sandy Hook

Rahm Emanuel famously said that “you never want a serious crisis to go to waste,” and apparently that included the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre. Two days after the horrific school shooting, the Chicago mayor advised then-Education Secretary Arne Duncan to “[t]ap peoples emotions” as they discussed how to leverage the tragedy to push for gun-control restrictions, according to emails published Wednesday by the Baltimore Post. “What are your thoughts?” asked Mr. Duncan in an email with the subject line “CT shootings” dated Dec. 16, 2012. Mr. Emanuel advised him to move quickly. “Go for a vote this week asap before it fades,” he said. “Tap peoples emotion. Make it ... Read More

States Are Offering Relief From Rising Health Care Costs

Middle-class Americans, stuck in Obamacare’s insurance “markets,” are desperate for relief from skyrocketing health insurance costs. Innovative state governors and legislators, as The Heritage Foundation has urged, need Washington’s help to provide it. Relief cannot come quickly enough. For 2019, insurance executives are saying that individual market premiums could increase by 30 percent nationwide. In Maryland, for example, insurers are requesting state regulators to approve rate increases ranging from 18.5 to as much as 91.4 percent, though final rates are sure to be lower. This year, enrollees were hit with a 34 percent increase for the standard “silver plans” in the individual markets nationwide, with deductibles averaging over ... Read More
