The Left is Shaking in Their Slippers about VVS 2014
Perhaps what bothers these groups even more than the Values Voter Summit, is the new Pew Research survey released this week showing a growing number of Americans want to see religious leaders take a stronger role in addressing social and political issues (6 point jump.) The same survey also shows a 5 point drop in support for the redefinition of marriage. The reality is that the debate over marriage is still very young - even younger than Facebook. The Left is clearly discouraged by the effectiveness of the Values Voter Summit and is willing to fork over a lot of money to stifle speech they disagree with. We've seen Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) use this strategy in his push to strip political speech out of the First Amendment and put it under a separate legislative box where Congress -- the objects of that speech -- can regulate it. We've seen the Left use "machine tweets" to intimidate Rush Limbaugh advertisers. The list goes on.
However, this censorship strategy continues to backfire, especially for the Southern Poverty Law Center, a group linked in federal court to domestic terrorism, Last year, the FBI dumped the SPLC as a website resource and the U.S. Army distanced themselves from the SPLC. A federal court ruled against the SPLC in a harassment lawsuit it brought against a pro-family group. Even the SPLC's own supporters are growing increasingly uncomfortable with the SPLC's attacks on free speech. It is odd that some people feel the need to attack those who are merely defending religious liberty and affirming the importance of the type of relationship which naturally provides children with a mother and a father. There will continue to be disagreement on how marriage should be defined, but reasonable people can approach this subject respectfully, thoughtfully and passionately. If you are in the D.C. area this weekend, please join us at the Values Voter Summit as we exercise our First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly.
A Run for the Straw at VVS!
** With the recent rise in cases of religious persecution, we must continue to pray for Pastor Saaed Abedini, who is still imprisoned in Iran. Samaritan's Purse will be holding a Prayer Vigil tomorrow, September 25, 2014, in Lafayette Square (located in front of The White House) from 6 - 7 p.m. Please join us as we continue to hold Pastor Abedini and other persecuted Christians up in prayer.
