WASHINGTON, DC –
At a press conference with Republican leaders today, House Speaker
John Boehner (R-OH) took the president to task for continuing to block
the Keystone pipeline - and the tens of thousands of jobs that come
with it – despite promising in 2009 that “the days of science taking a
back seat to ideology are over.” Following are Boehner’s remarks:
“You
know, a few months after taking office, President Obama said this:
‘the days of science taking a back seat to ideology are over.’ Well,
the State Department once again confirmed there is no reason,
scientific or otherwise, for delaying the Keystone pipeline one more
day. Mr. President, it’s time to act.
“Look, we need jobs – and we want energy security – and the Keystone pipeline is critical to both of them. There’s bipartisan support for this project in both the House and the Senate.
“Listen,
I recognize the president has friends that are opposed to this, but if
we’re going to operate our government on sound science it’s time for
the president to act.”
