A Second Chance for Republicans Now that the entire country sees the ten-alarm fire that has set our healthcare system ablaze, Democrats feel compelled to do something. Their Mr. Fix It plans are akin to an arsonist posing for a photo op with a 2-liter pitcher of water to put out the wildfire. Medicaid: A Placebo for the Poor Many GOP governors have been criticized for refusing to participate in the wild and ill-conceived expansion of the Medicaid program under Obamacare. There is good reason. While the expansion is underwritten by the Federal government in the near term, in the out years the states will be forced to either have their budgets consumed by Medicaid or take the politically difficult step of raising the eligibility requirements to pre-Obamacare levels. Texas Abortion Law Remains In Effect Earlier in the month I wrote about the decision of the Fifth Circuit to leave in effect the Texas abortion law that made Wendy Davis modern day priestess of Baal as far as the left is concerned. Planned Parenthood appealed to the US Supreme Court to overturn the Fifth Circuit ruling pending a hearing in January. Yesterday, Planned Parenthood got the bad news. The Supreme Court upheld the Fifth Circuit and allowed the Texas law to go into effect. The impact is that abortion, for all intents and purposes, is illegal in substantial areas of Texas. . . . please click here for the rest of the post → 6. ObamaCare’s “branding” problem Yesterday morning, a peevish White House adviser, Dan Pfeiffer, snapped under the burden of explaining why President Obama was blowing off the 150th anniversary of the Gettysburg Address. At first he claimed the snub was due to an unavoidable scheduling conflict, but the merest glance at the President’s daily agenda (which his political team sometimes seems to forget is available to the public) showed that was not true.
