THE WHITE HOUSE WATCH 05/16/2013

The First Big Step Toward Obama’s Impeachment

May 16, 2013 01:39 pm
Over the last few days, I’ve heard the word “impeachment” from more of my sources on Capitol Hill than in the last six years combined. One member of Congress told me to look at the Richard M. Nixon articles of impeachment and just change the name to Barack Obama. That member believes that many of the arguments [...]

Hillary never called back
Hugh Hewitt.com
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and her senior staff conducted a conference call with Gregory Hicks, deputy chief of the U.S. mission in Libya, in the early morning hours of Sept. 12, 2012.
Hicks was overseeing a chaotic scene in Tripoli, where his staff was busy destroying classified material with axes and whatever else was at hand and as the few security people left in Tripoli were preparing to evacuate to a safer location at dawn. (Think the opening scenes of the movie “Argo.”) The U.S. Consulate in Benghazi had been stormed and the ambassador was missing.
In his testimony Wednesday before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, the inspiring and obviously fearless Hicks recounted that, at the end of the 2 a.m. call, Hillary concurred with his decision to evacuate, and the call ended.
An hour later, having received “the saddest phone call of his life,” Hicks then relayed to the State Department in Washington that Ambassador Christopher Stevens was dead.
Hillary never called back.

The Myth of Presidential Leadership

Many Washington pundits are critical of the president’s ability to wrangle concessions out of Congress, but they forget that his power has limits.

The theme of presidential leadership is a venerated one in America, the subject of many biographies and an enduring mythology about great figures rising to the occasion. The term “mythology” doesn’t mean that the stories are inaccurate; Lincoln, the wonderful Steven Spielberg movie, conveyed a real sense of that president’s remarkable character and drive, as well as his ability to shape important events. Every president is compared to the Lincoln leadership standard and to those set by other presidents, and the first 100 days of every term becomes a measure of how a president is doing.

SO MUCH FOR INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY

The Assembly Judiciary Committee has voted to send to the floor Senate Bill 243, the Guilty-Until-Proven-Innocent bill.

What this bill allows the government to do is take a sample of your DNA upon any arrest for an alleged felony offense.  That’s ARREST, not conviction.  In other words, a gross infringement upon your Fourth Amendment rights.

Disappointingly not one Republican had the cojones to vote against this feel-good/slippery-slope bill in committee.  On the other hand, kudos to the max to two Democrats who had the stones to defend your Fourth Amendment rights: AssemblymanJames Ohrenschall (my Assemblyman!) and Assemblyman Richard Carrillo

In explaining his vote to apply a little white-out (ask your mom) to the U.S. Constitution, columnist Steve Sebelius writes that Republican Assemblyman Wes Duncan (R-Las Vegas) “said the federal government and other states take DNA from people arrested prior to conviction,” so why shouldn’t we?

Ah, the ol’ “everybody else is doing it” defense…which worked so well for us as children, didn’t it?

Indeed, if the federal government and other states decided to make it illegal to gamble, then Nevada should make it illegal to gamble, too?

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Duncan also “said the proposal would help capture criminals.”

Soros Gave $6.1 Million to Groups Linked to Pressure on IRS to Target Conservative Nonprofits

May 15, 2013

As IRS efforts targeting politically-conservative groups gained momentum, George Soros-funded liberal groups repeatedly called on the IRS to investigate conservative nonprofit organizations.
While the first reported instances of extra IRS scrutiny for conservative groups began in Cincinnati in March of 2010, the attacks began to pick up steam on a national level soon after Soros-funded groups began firing off letters to the IRS in October of that year - following the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling.
The talking points of these groups then bounced around a carefully created progressive "echo chamber," until they eventually made their way into established media outlets. Key IRS policy changes about how it investigated conservative groups took place soon after it received three separate letters sent by Soros-funded liberal organizations.
Several Soros-funded groups including the Campaign Legal Center, Democracy 21, the Center for Public Integrity, Mother Jones and Alternet have worked to pressure the IRS to target conservative nonprofit groups. The subsequent IRS investigation flagged more than 100 tea party-related applications for higher scrutiny, including applications that included the words "Tea Party" and "patriot."

RedState Briefing 05/16/2013

Morning Briefing
For May 16, 2013

1.  Republicans & GOP Donors Should Focus Here
We are all — all of us — attracted to shiny objects. Oftentimes we fixate on the shiny object and never see past the shine to what the object actually is or what it can actually do for us or whether it is even a distraction.

The IRS scandal is the latest shiny object on which the GOP will fixate. But if, instead of fixating, we take advantage of it — elected officials, activists, and donors alike — we can use what the Obama administration did via the IRS to our advantage.

Of course I am talking about Obamacare. Barack Obama wants to expand the number of IRS agents to manage Obamacare. In a scandal all its own, the IRS is facing a class action lawsuit for inappropriately accessing and taking the medical records of more than ten million people.
