President Obama Threatens to Veto "Cut, Cap and Balance"

The Obama administration says President Obama would veto the so called "cut, cap and balance" amendment supported by House Republican freshmen and members of the Tea Party if it came to him for signature.

The bill includes a constitutional amendment that requires a balanced budget and allows the government to borrow $2.4 trillion more - but only in conjunction with large spending cuts.
The Office of Management and Budget released a statement that the administration "strongly opposes" it, saying, "Neither setting arbitrary spending levels nor amending the Constitution is necessary to restore fiscal responsibility."

I have a message for President Obama: "Shame on you!"

In the past 48 hours, the President has dragged the presidency to new lows in his efforts to win a political debate and keep America on the path to bankruptcy.

First, Obama stooped to the worst kind of fearmongering by threatening to withhold Social Security checks in two weeks if Congress doesn't raise the debt ceiling. ""I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue," Obama said. Shame on you, President Obama, for playing on the fears and insecurities of our nation's seniors to win a political debate and keep your spend-a-thon going.

On Tuesday, Sen. Mitch McConnell proposed a convoluted Debt Ceiling Deal that would essentially give President Obama an unlimited credit line. The deal would grant Obama the power to raise the debt ceiling by up to $2.5 TRILLION in the next year.

The last thing Washington needs is an unlimited credit line when we can't even pay the debt we currently owe. The only sensible policy is to cut and cap spending and balance the budget. That's why our Cut, Cap and Balance petition is absolutely crucial right now.

In response, I am going to take our petitions to Sen. McConnell's office and let him know that grassroots Americans are not going to settle for blank checks and unlimited credit lines for politicians who are already in the process of bankrupting our nation.
