| Boehner Prods White House, Senate Democrats to Act on Student Loans |
|
WASHINGTON, DC
- House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement
after Senate Democrats again failed to approve legislation to address
student loan interest rates – which have doubled because of their
inaction – and prodded the White House and Senate Democratic leaders to
act on behalf of students and their families:
“Republicans
acted to protect students from higher interest rates and make college
more affordable, yet Senate Democratic leaders let student loan
interest rates double without passing any legislation to address the
issue. While the House-passed bill mirrors what the president has
proposed, Senate Democratic leaders seem content to leave students and
their families with higher borrowing costs and more student debt, which
is shameful and unacceptable. It’s long past time for President Obama
to lead, address the divisions within his own party, and bring
everyone together to enact a permanent solution for students and their
families.”

OBAMA TRYING TO BLAME GOP FOR DEMOCRATS IGNORING STUDENT LOANS!
| Republicans Have Acted; Democrats’ Divisions Leave Students With Higher Interest Rates |
|
WASHINGTON, DC
- House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) released the following statement
after Senate Democrats adjourned for a week-long recess without passing
any legislation addressing student loan interest rates, which double
today:
“Republicans
have passed common-sense legislation mirroring the president’s plan to
stop student loans from doubling and make college more affordable.
It’s disappointing that Senate Democrats left town without taking
action on behalf of students and their families. Indeed, the divisions
among the president and his own party are directly responsible for the
current impasse that will now result in higher borrowing costs for
students already coping with skyrocketing tuition bills. We need the
president to lead and help bring Senate Democratic leaders along to
resolve this issue. Republicans have acted. We’ve done our job, it’s
time for the president and his party to do their job.”

OUR 'LIAR IN CHIEF' CONTINUES TO LIE ABOUT STUDENT LOANS!
| Boehner: Evidence Mounting that Obama Administration Has Strategy to Let Student Loan Rates Rise |
WASHINGTON, DC – At his weekly press briefing today, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said he now believes President Obama and his Democratic allies in Washington have decided to deliberately allow student loan rates to double on July 1, rather than work with Republicans to enact a fix, in an effort to create a distraction from their party’s current troubles. Boehner expressed dismay that the president appears to have resorted to picking a fake fight with Republicans to distract from divisions that are preventing a solution on student loans from advancing in the Senate. House Republicans have already passed a bill – mirroring a plan proposed in the president’s own budget – that prevents rates from doubling, and provides more certainty for students and families, but Senate Democrats have refused to send it to the president’s desk. Following are Speaker Boehner’s remarks:
