For many runners, just finishing a race is difficult. But for one resident, reaching the finish line seemed almost impossible a year ago. 14 months ago, Neil West was battling COVID-19. After more than two weeks on a ventilator, he faced a long road to recovery. His daughter Alyssa said she knew the key to his recovery was to get him exercising. So, she pushed him. Alyssa created a routine for him to follow, set a goal, and signed him up for a 5K. Read more here

A line of more than 100 vehicles stretched from Memorial Stadium through the back streets of Lake City to a parking lot adjacent to the Lake City Police Department on Saturday morning. While the vehicles slowly meandered through town to their destination, a large group of volunteers waited where the motorists were headed for the Farm Share food giveaway for Lake City. For recipients, the food share giveaway began at 8 a.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Read more here

Accompanied by tears of gratitude, the city of Carrabelle welcomed a new commissioner and bid farewell to another commissioner at its swearing-in ceremony. With the presentation of a plaque of appreciation from City Administrator Courtney Dempsey, city officials thanked Cal Allen, who decided not to seek re-election after serving on the commission since 2009. Commissioner Tony Millender, who got the largest share of the vote, 37 percent, praised his colleague. Read more here
