Santa’s coming to town, but Florida’s Second Congressional District’s already in the spirit of giving. Here are a few good news stories about exceptional constituents who are giving back to their communities -

Two Bonifay police officers were recognized by the Bonifay City Council for going above the call of duty to help a woman safely out of her residence after a kitchen fire erupted. Bonifay Police Department, Bonifay Fire-Rescue, and Holmes County EMS responded to the structure fire on Park Circle. Officers Raymond Grimbly and George Record were the first to arrive on the scene and located an occupant with limited mobility and helped her to safety. Read more here

Chiefland Middle High School students decorated and donated trees for every room at Haven Hospice’s Tri-Counties Hospice Care Center for the holidays. Haven associate Jennifer Johnson was decorating the common areas of the care center to add some holiday cheer and thought that the patient rooms could also use some decorations. So, she informally contacted a Chiefland Middle High School teacher, asking if the students would like to help. Read more here.

More than 3,000 wreaths were laid at gravestones at Tallahassee National Cemetery Saturday as part of National Wreaths Across America Day. Mary Jane Lesley came to lay a wreath at her husband Leon’s grave. That wasn’t the only sacrifice he made. Leon suffered serious health complications due to exposure to Agent Orange. Every year since, Mary has laid a holiday wreath at his grave and sent a message to him. Read more here.
