Before we roll into the good news stories of the week, I’d like to wish Jack Hall of Bonifay a happy 100th birthday! Reaching 100 years of age is a fantastic feat. I hope this year treats you well. 

Here are a few good news stories to get you through your week -- 

ImageThe Calhoun County Veterans Office partnered with Blountstown Health and Rehabilitation Center to celebrate their veterans in nursing homes. The service members were served steaks while swapping stories of their time serving. Calhoun County Veterans Service Officer Eric Daniels said veterans in nursing homes are out of the spotlight, so the office wanted to do something special. The event was supposed to have nine veterans attending, but only five from the nursing home could make it. Read more here.

Inside the art classroom at Chaires Elementary in Leon County, students have been busting out crayons and getting busy crafting colorful postcards. Their creations are shipped across the country. Art Teacher Colleen Nottingham said she came up with the idea after visiting a conference in Orlando. There, she heard of an exchange between students and sailors. She knew exactly where to take the idea: “there’s a secret society on Facebook of art teachers.” Read more here

After completing all the requirements needed to earn the rank of Eagle Scout a few months ago, Kurtis McConnell was awarded the Eagle Scout Award during a special ceremony that was put on by the Gilchrist County Scouts and Pack 406 at Otter Springs Park & Campground’s Spring House Lodge. The prestigious Eagle Scout Award is obtained by a scout who has got to the highest rank in BSA (Boy Scouts of America). Read more here.
