This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Friday, I released a statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization , which overturned Roe v. Wade and Casey v. Planned Parenthood , giving elected officials in state legislatures around the country, along with the federal government, the ability to enact policies that protect the life of unborn Americans.  Read more here 


On Friday, I released the framework for my Providing for Life Act . The legislation combines new and existing pro-family proposals to provide comprehensive support for pregnant and new moms, as well as young children. Read more here

On Thursday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I welcomed the Senate’s unanimous passage of our resolution commemorating one year since the partial collapse of Champlain Towers South in Surfside, Florida that took the lives of 98 people. Read more here 


On Monday, I met with first responders and leaders from the Shul of Bal Harbour in Surfside, Florida. Along with Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and local officials, I visited the Surfside Memorial to pay my respects to the 98 lives lost when the Champlain Towers South partially collapsed. On Tuesday, I published an op-ed in Real Clear Politics urging the Biden Administration to enforce my Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act , which was signed into law in December 2021. Read the op-ed here 


On Thursday, I released a statement after opposing Senate legislation due to its insufficient constitutional protections for law-abiding citizens. Thanks to my efforts, the legislation includes the Luke and Alex School Safety Act , which permanently authorizes the Federal Clearinghouse on School Safety. Read more here

On Wednesday, Senator Jim Risch (R-ID) and I published a report titled, “Biden’s Border Crisis: Examining Policies that Encourage Illegal Migration.” The report highlights the ways in which the Biden Administration is undermining U.S. efforts to stop the flow of illegal migration, enforce immigration laws, and jeopardizing U.S. security. On Wednesday, Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) and I, Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, applauded the Committee’s unanimous passage of the Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023 . Read more here 


On Tuesday, I released a statement following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Carson v. Makin , which found a prohibition against students using student-aid programs at private, faith-based schools to be unconstitutional. Read more here

On Thursday, I joined Senator Bill Hageryty (R-TN), U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin (R-NY) and our colleagues in releasing a joint statement calling on the Biden Administration to reverse course on its plan to erode the full and faithful implementation of the Jerusalem Embassy Act of 1995 . On Thursday, Senators Joni Ernst (R-IA), Rick Scott (R-FL), and I sent a letter to President Joe Biden urging his administration to work with our North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies to update NATO’s strategic concept to reflect the reality of great power competition with the Chinese Communist Party even as the alliance contends with Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. On Thursday, I sent a letter to Federal Aviation Administration Acting Administrator Billy Nolen with regard to the threat posed by Russian aircraft, which are suffering from a lack of maintenance following Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. Read more here 


On Tuesday, Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) and I sent a letter to President Joe Biden regarding his decision to impose a two-year tariff moratorium on imported solar panels. Read more here .

Legislation Introduced

  •  On Wednesday, Senators Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Bill Cassidy (R-LA), and I introduced the Stop Supreme Court Leakers Act . The legislation would create criminal penalties for individuals who leak confidential information from the Supreme Court of the United States, including draft opinions by Supreme Court Justices prior to publication.   • On Wednesday, Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR), Josh Hawley (R-MO), James Lankford (R-OK), Steve Daines (R-MT), and I introduced the Protecting Minors from Medical Malpractice Act . The legislation would allow individuals who suffered from an irreversible and potentially sterilizing gender-transition procedure as a minor to seek justice in court. Read more here 

  • On Thursday, Senators Ron Wyden (D-OR), Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), and I introduced the Protecting Americans’ Data from Foreign Surveillance Act . The bipartisan legislation would create new protections against selling or transferring Americans’ sensitive personal information to high-risk foreign countries. Read more here 

  • On Thursday, Senators Jim Risch (R-ID), Roger Marshall (R-KS), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Steve Daines (R-MT), Mike Braun (R-IN), Kevin Cramer (R-ND), Jerry Moran (R-KS), Josh Hawley (R-MO), James Lankford (R-OK), Rick Scott (R-FL), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Roger Wicker (R-MS), and I introduced the Prohibiting Federal Emergencies for Abortion Act . The legislation follows reports the Biden Administration may declare a public-health emergency to protect access to abortion services nationwide if the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade. The bill would block the abuse of this executive authority granted under the Public Health Service Act, including other emergency declarations under the National Emergencies Act and the Stafford Act.   • On Thursday, I led my colleagues in introducing the Preventing Terrorist Transfers to Afghanistan Act . The bill, which mirrors a bipartisan provision in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023, would prevent the transfer of individuals currently detained at the United States Naval Station in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Afghanistan.
