This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 

On Thursday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I applauded the passage of our resolution honoring the memory of Aden Spencer Perry. The resolution recognizes the altruistic heroism displayed by Aden on April 19, 2022 when he attempted to save the life of a driver who had crashed into a lake in Sunrise, Florida. Aden and the driver tragically lost their lives that day. Read more here.

On Friday, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and I published an op-ed in Fox News discussing our bipartisan bill to provide health benefits for veterans suffering from toxic burn pits exposure. Read the op-ed here

  

On Thursday, I served as Ranking Member at a Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere hearing on the upcoming Ninth Summit of the Americas. Watch my opening remarks here and my questions to Panel I and Panel II of witnesses.

  

On Thursday, I joined bipartisan colleagues in applauding the Senate’s passage of our resolution honoring Russian dissident Vladimir Kara-Murza and condemning his unjust arrest and detention. Read more here

  

On Thursday, I sent a letter to U.S. Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall regarding the Air Force Library at Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany hosting a “Drag Queen Story Time” event for young children of servicemembers. I urged him to cancel the event, discipline the staff involved in planning and hosting the event, and respond to questions on whether other installations both at home and around the world have done similar events. On Thursday, I published an op-ed in The Federalist exposing leftist hypocrisy and condemning the Biden Administration’s dangerous promotion of puberty blockers for children. Read the op-ed here

  

On Monday, I published an op-ed in Newsweek discussing the need for a resilient economy in the United States to offset and prevent future supply chain disruptions. Read the op-ed here.

  

On Monday, I released a statement urging President Joe Biden to prevent TikTok Shop, which entered pilot testing in the United States last fall, from fully operating in the U.S. Read more here

  

On Monday, I joined my Senate colleagues in sending a letter to the Surface Transportation Board urging the federal agency to ensure reliable, consistent rail service for American industries and shippers. Read more here

  

On Tuesday, I led my colleagues on a letter to Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board’s Acting Chairman David Jones regarding the board’s plan to open a new “Mutual Fund Window” beginning next month for U.S. military members and other federal employees who participate in the Thrift Savings Plan. Last Friday, I joined my Senate colleagues in sending a letter to Senators Jon Tester (D-MT) and Richard Shelby (R-AL), Chairman and Ranking Member, respectively, of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, regarding efforts to fully fund U.S.-Israel cooperative missile defense programs in the Defense Appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2023. Last Wednesday, I joined Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Representatives Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Jim McGovern (D-MA), all leading members of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China, in sending a letter to the Chairs and Ranking Members of the Senate and House Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security requesting full funding for U.S. Customs and Border Protection to vigorously enforce the import restrictions required by my law, the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act. Legislation Introduced

  • On Wednesday, I led my colleagues in introducing the Defending Freedom of Conscience for Cadets and Midshipmen Act. The legislation would protect cadets and midshipmen at the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy from being punished for their choice to not receive the COVID-19 vaccine.   • On Thursday, I joined Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and Mike Braun (R-IN) in introducing the Defending Americans from Authoritarian Digital Currencies Act . The bill would prohibit app platforms in the United States from using the Chinese Communist Party’s digital yuan (e-CNY) or hosting apps that enable transactions using e-CNY. Read more here.
