NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

This past week, President Biden introduced a proposed budget that does very little to help ease the burden of inflation. With a country in crisis, his top priority should be sensible solutions that help Americans thrive. Instead, we got yet another radical wish list that will cost us TRILLIONS.

Here’s what’s in the budget:

  • $58+ TRILLION in total taxes over the next 10 years, including a $48 billion death tax increase on grieving families
  • $45,000 in taxpayer-funded benefits available to every illegal immigrant
  • An average price of $4.27 per gallon at the pump under Biden’s anti-American energy agenda
  • ZERO accounting of new WH request for an additional $22.5 billion in "COVID funding"
  • It allows federal funding for sanctuary cities
  • Allows defunding the police
  • Allows continued funding of viral research in China
None of this will combat inflation, high gas/energy prices, our current border crisis, or the current crime surge. Whether Democrats want to accept it or not, Americans CANNOT afford their progressive agenda. It’s time to ditch the wish lists and adopt commonsense solutions that actually help America.

Bills I’m Cosponsoring

No Energy Revenues for Russian Hostilities Act of 2022 (H.R. 6894) – President Biden’s recent sanctions include a carve-out for Russian energy transactions. This bill would close a loophole in these sanctions thus putting an end to U.S. transactions with Russian oil and gas producers.

H.J.Res. 72 - This joint resolution nullifies the rule issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on February 3, 2021, that requires the use of face masks on planes, trains, buses, and other public transportation hubs to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.

Letters I’ve Signed Onto

I recently sent a letter to the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) concerning the Honor Flight Network (Honor Flight) and its ability to use the National Park Service’s U.S. Park Police (USPP) vehicular escort services. Honor Flight typically pays the USPP for their services to ensure the veterans attending the trip can see all the war memorials in our nation’s capital. However, USPP recently contacted Honor Flight Tallahassee to inform them that their vehicular escort services are no longer available for any Honor Flight Hub visiting the war memorials because they have not received permission from DOI. The letter asks DOI Secretary Haaland what actions are needed to reinstate the USPP’s ability to provide vehicular escort services for the veterans joining the Honor Flight trip.

I also joined my colleagues on a letter to Secretary of State Blinken about the Biden Administration’s failure to use congressionally approved sanctions against China for providing support to North Korea. Sanctions are currently placed on North Korea's weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs; however, the Biden Administration has not sanctioned Chinese and Russian entities, individuals, and financial institutions for violation of the North Korea Sanctions and Policy Enhancement Act of 2016. Our letter presses for answers on why we’re still tiptoeing around Russia and China.

Last weekend's Military Service Academy Day was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who participated! There are so many young leaders with bright futures ahead of them.

I would also like to congratulate Branford High School senior Nathalia Veal on her recent appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. I am confident she will make Florida-02 very proud!

For schools that house grades k-12 or 6-12, this competition will be open to grades 7-12. There is no specific theme for this year’s competition; however, there are specific guidelines for the size of the artwork, as well as the medium.

The deadline for artwork submissions is Monday, April 25, 2022, at 11:59 PM ET.

The first-place winning art piece will be put on display in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. for one year. The second and third place winning pieces will be put on display in either Congressman Dunn’s Tallahassee District Office or Panama City District Office.

Constituent Casework Corner

The wife of a Korean War veteran recently contacted my office wanting to schedule a visitation with her husband, who is currently living at a VA community living facility. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, visitations are limited. The wife was struggling to get ahold of the VA to schedule a visit in time for her husband’s 92nd birthday. My office was able to connect her with the right VA representative, and she was able to celebrate with her husband and daughter on his birthday.
