Help Save Maryland Rejects New Annapolis Legislation
Last week, Help Save Maryland send correspondence to both the Senate and House Committees in Annapolis in opposition to new illegal alien supporting legislation. Our lawless politicians are now attempting to have us taxpayers foot the bill so illegals can have high priced lawyers to defend them from their rightful deportation from our country.
It doesn't get any more insulting to Maryland taxpayers than this! Correction, Biden's Open Southern Border with Mexico, allowing more than 2 million illegal aliens in our country this past year, and counting, is the winner!

SENATE BILL 0129 - "ACCESS TO COUNSEL IN IMMIGRATION PROCEEDINGS PROGRAM" - AKA - FREE LAWYERS FOR ILLEGALS GETTING DEPORTED

Members of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee, My name is Brad Botwin, Director of Help Save Maryland.org, a state-wide, 501(c)3 Nonprofit organization which educates Maryland citizens (including our legislators) on the financial, social, and economic costs of illegal immigration. I am writing in opposition to SB 129, “Access to Counsel in Immigration Proceedings Program.” As you are well aware, there are legal and ethical reasons why this bill should not go forward. Once again, this legislative body is promoting a politically motivated bill, further adding to lawlessness and state sanctuary in Maryland. SB 129 was obviously drafted by an outside anti-citizen organization and introduced for the sole benefit of Maryland’s ever growing illegal alien population and their local enablers. Our diverse citizenry, if fully aware of SB 129’s financial and legal ramifications, would clearly oppose this bill. At a time when crime, murder and rape are growing rapidly across the state, and Black and Brown students in our public schools cannot read or write to acceptable levels, why would Maryland citizens and legal immigrants want to use precious tax dollars on lawyers for essentially “border jumpers”? Persons who knowingly refused to enter our country legally by following proper immigration procedures available at the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in their home countries. Federal law clearly states that illegal aliens (yes, they are illegal aliens) who wish to be represented by legal counsel are free to do so, but they must do so at no cost to the government (8 U.S.C. 1229a(b)(4); 8 U.S.C. 1362). In addition, the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right to legal representation only for criminal prosecutions. Almost all immigration proceedings, including removal proceedings, are civil, and therefore do not trigger the Sixth Amendment right to free counsel. The Supreme Court has ruled that deportation is not a punishment, but rather a civil administrative procedure whereby an alien is returned to their homeland. Providing free legal representation to illegal aliens is also unethical. As you know, citizens and legal residents are required to pay out of pocket for their own civil proceedings. Yet, this body seemingly would use our tax dollars to provide this as a free service for those with no moral or legal right to be in Maryland. We have all heard the nonsense spewed by controversial groups like Casa of Maryland. That “the complexity of immigration law, language, cultural barriers, power imbalance make those cases impossible to win”. “Providing those who denied their liberty with access to counsel is a matter of fundamental fairness and comports with due process principles”. Seriously? Illegal aliens make the conscious decision to cross our border without regard for our laws. They use, in fact expect access to our public services (public schools, housing, welfare, health services, and more) without a second thought. They often take jobs away from citizens by working under the table and obtain fake IDs to further hide from federal law enforcement. And thanks to Biden Regime’s open border policies, Maryland is being overwhelmed with illegal aliens and their families like never before. According to SB 129, the State of Maryland would set provide and an initial $8 million dollars per year for this “legal defense fund”. A drop in the slush fund bucket needed to cover all the illegal aliens in Maryland nervous, as they should be, about deportation. This bill would also make Maryland a magnet for even further illegal immigration and tells our citizens that laws don’t matter and are not meant to be taken seriously. I therefore respectfully request, as the Director of Help Save Maryland.org and a long-time resident of Montgomery County, an unfavorable report on SB 129. Citizens Silenced By Committee Chair During Their Testimony!
Help Save Maryland has written before about privileged Black state senator and committee chair, Will Smith (D-Montgomery County). Will thinks a lot of himself despite his questionable experience and loyalties.
Will served in the U.S. Military as an intelligence officer among other things, with his specialty being "intelligence" in Afghanistan. Enough said. Will was also an Obama appointee in the Department of Homeland Security, where he headed an industry advisory council. Please note that the majority of companies that participate in Advisory Council meetings, send their Washington DC staff with Public Affairs/Government Relations expertise. The corporate experts don't waste time hanging out in meetings in DC with flunky types like Will.
At the recent Senate Committee hearing on the "Free Lawyers for Illegal Aliens" legislation, Will was caught flashing his true colors once again. Keep in mind that Will was a key sponsor of State Sanctuary legislation that is now law. Will truly believes illegal aliens are his constituents.
Seems Will gets quite upset when citizens testifying before his committee use the term "illegal aliens". So upset in fact that he cut off the Zoom Hearing connections of a couple of citizens opposed to the "Free Lawyers" bill in mid presentation before his committee!
Cutoff as in "shut up I'm not interested in hearing from you despite your First Amendment Rights". Did Will stop Casa of Maryland or any other illegal alien support groups from testifying in favor of the bill? No such luck.

Senate Bill 265 - "Probation Before Judgement- Probation Agreements - Probation Not Deportation"
"Authorizing a court to stay the entering of judgment, defer further proceedings, and place a certain defendant on probation subject to reasonable conditions if the court finds facts justifying a finding of guilt; authorizing the court and a certain defendant to enter into a probation agreement before the defendant enters a plea of guilty or nolo contendere or the court finds facts justifying a finding of guilt under certain circumstances; etc."
Guess who is behind this legislation? That's right, Senator Will Smith (D-Montgomery County). So is Susan Lee (D-Montgomery County). Wonder if Lee checked with her Asian constituents to see if they want this travesty passed? Shamefully, so is Senator Bill Ferguson (D-Baltimore City). Baltimore hospitals and morgues are bursting at the seams with murder victims and wounded residents, but Bill thinks its more important to focus on helping illegal aliens in his community and state!
Thankfully, Senator Michael Hough (R-Frederick and Carroll Counties) pointed out that this would be a violation of due process under the Maryland Constitution. "You can't put people on probation unless you have them plead guilty". (Hough is running for Frederick County Executive in 2022). Stay tuned!

It's interesting how plenty of illegal alien child rapists/sexual assaulters are arrested in North Carolina each month. These creeps are the "Jefferey Epsteins" of the illegal alien community, but without the cash and often with much younger tastes. Thanks to the Biden Regime, more and more of these players arrive each month in the U.S. and Maryland.

Where is the criminal reporting on these uninvited guests, which Annapolis leftists want to have the taxpayers defend in Court from deportation?
