This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio 


On Thursday, I released a report detailing my legislative accomplishments in 2021 and the landmark laws I wrote over the past five years. Six of my bills became law in 2021, including the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act , which represents one of the most significant changes in America’s trade relationship with China in decades. On Monday, I delivered remarks at the Florida Sheriffs Association’s Winter Conference. Read more here

On Tuesday, I joined Senator Rick Scott in urging President Joe Biden to approve Governor Ron DeSantis’ request for a major disaster declaration to be issued for Charlotte and Lee Counties as a result of a severe weather system last week. Read more here

On Monday, I urged U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Marcia Fudge to immediately address several of Florida’s Section 8 Project-Based Rental Assistance properties with failing Real Estate Assessment Center (REAC) scores that had previously experienced inspection delays. On Thursday, I issued a statement and video message on the forthcoming retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer and President Joe Biden’s impending nomination. Read more here

On Tuesday, I, along with ten other Senators, wrote to U.S. Department of Education (ED) Inspector General Sandra Bruce and U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz, urging them to investigate multiple coordinated efforts between the Biden Administration, the National School Boards Association (NSBA), and the National Education Association (NEA) to silence parents protesting school policies related to COVID-19 and Critical Race Theory. On Tuesday, U.S. Representative Lance Gooden (R-TX) and I announced forthcoming legislation to prevent the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Transportation and Security Administration (TSA) from allowing illegal immigrants to use arrest warrants as identification when boarding commercial flights. On Monday, Senators Josh Hawley (R-MO), James Lankford (R-OK), Jim Inhofe (R-OK), Mike Braun (R-IN), and I sent a letter to Rashad Hussain, the newly-confirmed U.S. Ambassador for International Religious Freedom, urging his office to monitor the alarming case in Finland against two Christians accused of violating Finland’s hate crime law due to their deeply held religious convictions. On Tuesday, I released a statement calling for meaningful guardrails to help protect critical research, intellectual property, and innovations after the Biden Administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) dropped charges against a Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor who failed to disclose his affiliation with the People’s Republic of China. Last Thursday, I joined Senator James Lankford (R-OK) in introducing a resolution calling on the International Olympic Committee to relocate the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games in response to the Chinese Communist Party’s refusal to acknowledge and stop its egregious human rights abuses. Last Thursday, I joined Senators Rob Portman (R-OH), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Bob Casey (D-PA), Mike Braun (R-IN), and Roger Marshall (R-KS) in sending a letter to President Joe Biden urging him to heed the unanimous recommendation of the International Trade Commission (ITC) and extend the Section 201 safeguard tariffs on Chinese-manufactured solar panels for another four years.
