Family, friends, and residents turned out last weekend to mark the 100th birthday of World War II veteran and beloved Dunnellon resident Clinton C. Burns. Burns looked spry and fit as he smiled and greeted people arriving at Dunnellon City Hall for the parade. About 25 well-wishers paraded from City Hall to McDonald’s. Dunnellon Mayor Bill White called Burns a “living, walking legend” and a source of history. Happy belated birthday, Mr. Burns! Read more here.

The Leis family of Panama City Beach never has a boring day, especially with 10 children. Sawyer, their 9-year-old son who was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism, has a deep admiration for FedEx and waits by the window every day to watch the delivery truck go by. Last week, Justin the delivery driver left a sweet surprise for Sawyer. The gift was a backpack full of FedEx-themed items, including sunglasses, a hat, a T-shirt, a tumbler, and highlighters. Read more here.

Jesse McCarley was in David Jonathan’s Education First class almost two decades ago. The class taught him real-life skills like building a business and networking. McCarley, now in the Air Force, says these skills are what he uses every day to be successful. Jonathan, who is now retired, says he hopes that McCarley’s story can inspire other kids who may struggle in the classroom that they can still succeed in anything they put their minds to. Read more here.
