FLORIDA - SENATOR MARCO RUBIO eNEWSLETTER

Marco Rubio - U.S. Senator for Florida E-Newsletter

This Week in the Office of Senator Marco Rubio

On Tuesday, I requested an update from the U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo after the department missed its own deadline to provide the White House a report with recommendations to protect Americans’ data from foreign adversaries. Read more here.

On Wednesday, I published an op-ed marking the 246th birthday of the United States Navy and discussing the important role the Navy plays in safeguarding our economic and national security. Read more here.

On Wednesday, Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and I, along with Florida members of the U.S. House of Representatives, sent a letter to U. S. Attorney General Merrick Garland condemning the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) recent directive to deploy federal law enforcement resources in a thinly veiled effort to intimidate and silence parents of school children. Read more here.

On Wednesday, I joined Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) in sending a bipartisan letter to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the immediate appointment of a senior-level official to lead efforts on anomalous health incidents. Read more here.

On Thursday, Senators Rick Scott (R-FL), John Cornyn (R-TX), and I urged U.S. Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo to add Honor Device Co., a Chinese state-owned smartphone producer and Huawei offshoot, to the department’s Entity List. By neglecting to add Honor to the Entity List, the Biden Administration is allowing a commercial arm of the Chinese Communist Party to evade American export controls and exploit our technological sector. Read more here.

On Friday, I published an op-ed in Fox News discussing why President Joe Biden should fire John Kerry as his climate czar. Read the full op-ed here.

On Sunday, I issued the following statement on the 110th anniversary of Taiwan. Read more here.

Last Friday, I joined the Brian Mudd Show to discuss the Biden Administration’s misaligned priorities, the rise of Marxism in America, the border crisis, and more. Read more here.

Legislation Introduced

  • Last Thursday, Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX), Thom Tillis (R-NC), and I introduced legislation to disrupt illicit gold mining and trafficking of other precious metals that are commonly used to fund terrorist groups and rogue regimes. This bill would empower the Department of the Treasury to take steps against those complicit in mining and moving these resources. Read more here.
  • On Tuesday, I joined Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) in announcing the Denying Earnings to the Military Oligarchy in Cuba and Restricting Activities of the Cuban Intelligence Apparatus (DEMOCRACIA) Act. This bicameral legislation would hold the illegitimate regime in Cuba accountable for its significant human rights abuses by imposing severe sanctions and unprecedented financial pressure.
