Dear Friend,

Halloween is this weekend. I’m sure many of you have plans to take the little one’s trick-or-treating. I encourage you to have fun but be cautious. With COVID-19 still looming and flu season in full swing, make sure you’re still washing your hands, covering your cough, and maintaining a safe distance from others.

A quick note for residents of Taylor, Dixie, Jefferson, Lafayette, and Madison Counties - The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is reminding businesses of all sizes, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters in Florida of the Nov. 23 deadline to apply for physical damage disaster loans. Anyone in the declared counties with damages affected by the severe storms and flooding on Aug. 3 – 7, 2021, should apply for the low-interest disaster loan program. You can read more about this here.

Here are a few good news stories from Florida-02 to get you through your week --

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office swore in 16 school resource officers last week, and one or more of them is now stationed at every school across Jackson County. They have gone through a lot of training to get to this point, including crisis intervention training and active shooter training. Thank you to the Jackson County School Board and Sheriff’s Office for actively working to make this possible! Read more here.

The third edition of the Build My Future job expo was held at the Florida Gateway Fairgrounds with students from Columbia and Suwannee counties in attendance, working with tools from several trade industry professions. The expo is designed to showcase and expose students to the trade, industrial, commercial and residential trade industries, along with disciplines like mechanical and heavy equipment careers. Such a great opportunity! Read more here.

Since January 2020, a groundbreaking partnership between FSU’s Art Therapy Program and the Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) has provided young adult inmates with special needs and obstacles the opportunity to earn their General Education Degree (GED) while also addressing topics such as mental health and emotional and behavioral challenges through art therapy.  Read more about the program here.

As we continue taking measures to combat COVID-19, maintaining your mental health may become more difficult. I encourage you to visit this page if you are experiencing anxiousness or hopelessness.
