NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICTDear Friend, This past week, President Biden took aim at Governor DeSantis and the State of Florida. He criticized the state’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and insisted that our governor get out of his way. Governor DeSantis responded with, “If you’re trying to lock people down, I am standing in your way and I’m standing for the people of Florida.” I absolutely stand with Governor DeSantis who has proven his leadership during this trying time with multiple conflicting messages from Washington.
The solution to any problem is very seldom more government, and that is exactly what the Biden Administration and the Democrats want. They operate with a “government knows best” mentality, and it’s time we put a stop to it. There are precautions we as individuals can take without this Administration’s mandates – especially an Administration that is willingly letting tens of thousands of people with COVID-19 illegally cross our southern border every month. They receive no testing, no vaccinations, and are flown to many parts of America without regard to the risks.
In order to protect yourself and your family, please consider getting vaccinated. If you have concerns about the vaccine, please consult your doctor. And if you are feeling unwell, please stay home. We’ve reduced infections before, and I believe we can do it again. That said, how we protect ourselves should always be between you and your doctor – not you and the federal government. Before I begin telling you about my week, let me take a moment to ask for prayers for the Bowden family. This morning, news broke that football legend Coach Bobby Bowden passed away. Bobby was truly one-of-a-kind. While his grit and determination led the Seminoles to victory on many occasions, his kindness and generosity are what made him one of the most highly respected individuals in the State of Florida. I’m grateful for his contribution to the Seminole Nation and the Sunshine State. May his legacy live on for years to come.

Meeting With Tallahassee Memorial Hospital
On Friday, I attended a roundtable with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH) board members to discuss legislative issues affecting the hospital and how I can help. Following the roundtable discussion, TMH CEO Mark O’Bryant gave me a tour of the M.T. Mustian Center. Named after Middleton Truett "M.T." Mustian, the facility is designed to improve the hospital's response to surgical and critical needs in the region. Thank you all for having me and for the tour! Looking forward to visiting again soon.

FYI For All Veterans
What’s Happening on Capitol Hill Helping Veterans Tackle Prostate Cancer
I recently reintroduced the Veteran’s Prostate Cancer Treatment and Research Act (H.R. 4880). Prostate cancer is the number one cancer diagnosed in the Veterans Health Administration with over 489,000 veterans undergoing treatment. This bill will direct the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to establish a clinical pathway for prostate cancer, a standardized system of care for the treatment of what is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the veterans’ health system.
After everything our veterans experience while serving, the last thing they should be faced with is yet another enemy – prostate cancer. The key to overcoming prostate cancer is early detection. Veterans deserve a system that streamlines the pathway from early detection to successful treatment. This bill is a solid first step forward to save fellow veterans' lives and defeat this deadly adversary.
