THE JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY

Members of the Florida Legislature are seeking to pass legislation to ensure that employers in the state do not hire illegal aliens, an action that would significantly disincentivize illegal migration to Florida.

House Bill 6001 (HB 6001) was introduced by Representative Anthony Sabatini (R-Howey-in-the-Hills) for the 2022 regular session. If passed, it would require all private employers in Florida to use E-Verify to ensure that their employees are legally authorized to work in the United States.

In June 2020, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill mandating E-Verify for public employers. However, establishment Republicans severely watered down the bill from the original version, which would have required E-Verify for all employers — something Rep. Sabatini’s HB 6001 seeks to rectify.

Commenting on both his bill and the 2020 bill, Sabatini stated:

The thing that passed in 2020 wasn’t just ‘watered down’ — it was entirely fake. [HB 6001] is the single most important bill that we can pass considering the fact that 70% of the new illegal immigrants are coming straight to Florida once they cross the border.

Rep. Sabatini is correct to note the importance of mandatory E-Verify. Because of the Biden administration’s extremist border policies, it created — intentionally — an unprecedented surge in illegal migration. This surge is being used to alter the nature of our constitutional Republic. By importing significant numbers of individuals from cultures with no knowledge or understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the Founding Fathers’ philosophical principles, the Left is able to reshape the nation to their liking — importing the very kind of socialist and corrupt governments that many of them fled.

Because of the federal government’s anti-American migration policies, it is imperative that states take decisive action, including through nullifying unconstitutional federal migration actions. Unfortunately, most state action thus far has been mere posturing. Enacting mandatory E-Verify in Florida would be a great first step toward stronger action.

Considering Florida’s size and economic importance, mandatory E-Verify would have a noticeable impact against illegal migration. For example, Florida has the nation’s third largest population, and it has one of the most vibrant state economies. Furthermore, according to Governor DeSantis, 70% of illegals apprehended at certain locations along the southern border are headed to Florida. Mandatory E-Verify would have a significant effect at disincentivizing illegal migration.

Tell your state representative and senator to support HB 6001, to reject any attempt to weaken the bill, and to take strong and decisive action against Marxist efforts to subvert our Republic through mass migration.
