Dear Friend,

As we approach this holiday weekend, I not only want to encourage you to be safe but to also reflect on what these holidays represent. Juneteenth (June 19th) is a day that represents freedom in the Black community. It’s also a day that shows the value of never giving up hope. Father’s Day (June 20th) is a day where we celebrate the role fathers and father figures play in society. Without them, this country would look completely different. I’m grateful for these days and the positive impact they’ve had on this country. Here are a few good news stories to help you get through the rest of the week --

Lake City police officer Michael Craig’s response to a wave from local youngster Wyatt Griffis not only made the child’s day but highlighted the LCPD’s efforts to improve its relationship with residents in the community — young and old. Wyatt waved to Officer Craig on Saturday afternoon, and the officer stopped to let Wyatt check out the car. He even turned the lights and sirens on for the young boy. You can read the rest of this heartwarming story here.

The Eufloria Flower Cart will soon be rolling around Ocala to offer build-your-own bouquets starting June 26. Krista Ingrilli, who is a director of sales for HDG Hotels by day, is the owner and head florist for Eufloria by night and weekend. With her boyfriend, Delfino Garza, and cat Primrose at her side, Ingrilli is making her vision a reality just a few months after the idea was conceived in March and hopes to spread joy to Marion County residents. This is such a unique idea, and I can’t wait to see the business in action. Read more here.

Misson850 founders Dot and Nicholas Wagner are relocating from Tallahassee to Panama City and expanding the nonprofit’s coverage area to encompass the entire Florida Panhandle. The couple began Mission850 shortly after Hurricane Michael made landfall in 2018. Within two months, they helped about 60 families across Bay, Calhoun, and Liberty counties. Thank you both for your generosity and contribution to our district! Read the full story here.
