UP FIRST 04/06/2021

First look:

  • MLB keeps making unforced errors, moves All-Star Game to Denver
  • Dems get a big win, won't face filibuster on infrastructure bills
  • Feds expected to force reporting on workers' pay, race and gender
  • CA's latest idiotic restriction on who can attend HS sports

HeadlineMLB Moves All Star Game To Colorado, Which Has Voter ID Laws, Significantly Less Diverse Than Georgia

The First take: We're always amazed when someone can't make a course correction even when they see the ship is headed straight for the rocks. Major League Baseball's knee-jerk reaction from Friday has been followed up by moving the All-Star game to Denver (as reported by ESPN and others). The argument about the GA law being discriminatory was flawed and MLB could have corrected their mistake. They did not. With this move, we believe they've only made it worse. "America's Pastime" may be realizing its' time has passed.

Senate Parliamentarian gives Dems green light on Biden's big bills

HeadlineSenate parliamentarian to let Democrats bypass GOP filibuster on two more bills

The First take: The Senate parliamentarian's ruling gives the Democrats a legislative EZ-Pass to move Biden's so-called infrastructure bills ahead without having to worry about a filibuster slowing things down. We see this as a huge win for Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and an even bigger win for the Senate's most powerful man, Joe Manchin. (See the bonus story below)

Feds expected to force companies to report workers' race, gender, and pay

Headline: Feds Likely to Force Companies To Report Pay By Race and Gender

The First take: Here comes federally mandated Social Engineering and Central Planning in the workplace. We expect to see the reinstatement of an Obama-era requirement forcing companies to report how much they are paying workers and include data on gender and race. We also believe it won't be long before you are told to balance your staff based on gender, race, and pay. No thanks, comrade.

California's latest idiotic restriction on who can watch HS sports

HeadlineUpdate: Cheerleaders cleared to attend games but CPDH limits fans to one parent

The First take: Just one parent allowed? Last week, the health department in California ruled cheerleaders, bands, college recruiters and scouts were told they would not be welcome as youth and high school sports began returning. After some complaining, the ruling on cheerleaders was overturned. As of this writing, the restriction on parents or a designated fan per player still sits at one. Insanity.
