NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,

Happy Easter and Chag Sameach to those celebrating the last day of Passover! It’s officially the season of new beginnings, and here in Florida’s Second Congressional District, we have a lot new beginnings and milestones to celebrate.

Beginning Monday, Floridians 18 and over (16 and over if you are receiving the Pfizer vaccine) will be eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. I’m thrilled that we’ve come this far in such a short amount of time, thanks to Operation Warp Speed. That said, please don’t be deterred by the short timeline, these vaccines are safe and very effective. We’re getting closer and closer to returning to our way of life before COVID-19, and for that, I am very thankful. You can find information about vaccination locations below.

Additionally, I’m excited to announce that the U.S. Air Force has issued a final Record of Decision making Tyndall Air Force Base the official location to host three new squadrons of the F-35A Lightning II. This addition is exactly what the base and the surrounding area need to further recover and thrive.

We have a lot of things to look forward to in Florida’s Second Congressional District. I hope you all have had a safe and blessed holiday weekend. And if you have yet to receive a vaccine, please consider scheduling an appointment this week.

New Opportunities in Florida-02

On Wednesday, I had the honor of joining my friend Senator Tim Scott at the groundbreaking ceremony for Panama City’s new opportunity zone, Hotel Indigo.

The opportunity zone concept, pioneered by Senator Tim Scott, came at the perfect time for our community. This plan was in place before Hurricane Michael and will be vital as we continue to rebuild. The ground we stand on has untapped potential, and I’m thrilled that we have a chance to improve it – and do it in a way that will benefit the entire region.

This project will bring hundreds, even thousands of jobs to our area, and will give far more residents the chance to achieve, the American Dream. I’m ready to help in any way that I can, not only as your Congressman but as an enthusiastic member of our community.

Investing in the Next Generation

I would like to thank Arnold High School for inviting me to speak to the Advanced Placement Government class. During my visit, I talked about the importance of the Constitution and preserving our individual liberties. I also took the time to remind these high school seniors that there are many different paths to success after high school. College is not the only option. Many will go on to trade schools or will serve in the U.S. military or as first responders. The most important thing is that this generation understands how important it is to get involved in their communities and be a role model for the generation after them.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to speak to this group. They have very bright futures ahead of them.

Welcoming the F-35A Lightning II

This past week, the U.S. Air Force issued a final Record of Decision making Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, the official location to host three new squadrons of the F-35A Lightning II.

Tyndall Air Force Base is the perfect choice to host three new squadrons of the F-35A Lightning II, the future of the U.S. Air Force. Tyndall was hit hard by Hurricane Michael in 2018, and I’m grateful to the U.S. Air Force for committing to rebuilding the base immediately following the storm.

This addition is exactly what the base and the surrounding area need to further recover and thrive. Not only will building these new squadrons bring new jobs to the community, but thousands will soon call Florida’s Second Congressional District “home.” Many thanks to everyone who helped in this process, especially the Bay Defense Alliance and the Florida Defense Alliance!
