Biden hosted 10 GOP Senators in "excellent" Oval Office meeting

HeadlineSusan Collins Hails ‘Excellent Meeting’ After Biden Hosts 10 GOP Senators in Oval Office, But Concedes They Didn’t Reach Deal on Covid Relief

What's Up: A group of 10 Republican senators sat with President Biden in the Oval Office on Monday. The two-hour meeting was an in-person presentation of the GOP's counter proposal, offering about 1/3rd of the $1.9
trillion in COVID relief the President has told Congress he wants.

Quote: "'We outlined for the president the provisions that we have proposed as part of an approximately $600 billion package,” Collins said of the talks with Biden. “He explained in more depth areas that were not flushed out as much in the package, the $1.9 trillion package and it was a very good exchange of views. I wouldn’t say that we came together on a package tonight." — Mediaite.com

The First take: We wondered why such a big group was invited into the Oval. Well, it's the exact number of GOP votes needed to avoid a filibuster on the relief bill. We also note the Democrats are not exactly concerned about the GOP on this bill. See the BONUS story below.

Hunter Biden's lawyer's business partner just got a big gig at the DOJ

HeadlineBiden Taps Ex-Colleague Of Hunter Biden’s Lawyer To Temporarily Run DOJ Criminal Division

What's Up: In a move barely noticed by the mainstream media, President Biden's administration appointed a man to run the Criminal Division of the DOJ who was very recently in business with the lawyer representing Hunter Biden in the criminal investigation announced just last December.

Quote: "In one of his very first acts as president, Joe Biden appointed someone called Nicholas McQuaid to run the DOJ’s Criminal Division, the all-important Criminal Division. Turns out that’s the same Criminal Division that’s currently investigating Biden’s son, Hunter. So, who is this Nicholas McQuaid exactly? Well, this show can tell you that he is a former business partner of Hunter Biden’s new criminal defense attorney, a man called Christopher Clark.” — Tucker Carlson

The First take: Where are the journalists? The son of the president is currently under a criminal investigation and the administration appoints a man who was partners with the son's attorney to oversee the investigation??? The clock is ticking on how soon this investigation will be dissolved. Nothing to see here. Keep walking...

Why inflation is good and how to win against it

Although investors in some asset classes are at risk if inflation goes up (or down), we’re seeing a win either way here at NRIA thanks to the assets we’re focused on building for our clients.

We build assets that are inflation protected and yet pay out current high cash flows.

Currently, NRIA investors are extended a higher than standard 10% monthly payout return from our real estate backed “Class A Buildings Fund”!

CA teacher: Bernie Sanders' knitted mittens are a sign of "white privilege"

HeadlineSan Francisco teacher writes in op-ed: Bernie Sanders’ mittens a ‘lesson in white privilege’

What's Up: An opinion piece in the San Francisco Chronicle makes the unusual claim that Senator Bernie Sanders' wardrobe choice for the Biden Inauguration is a sign of Sanders' "white privilege."

Quote: "'I don’t know many poor, or working class, or female, or struggling-to-be-taken-seriously folk who would show up at the inauguration of our 46th president dressed like Bernie,” she said." — Ingrid Seyer-Ochi, a former UC Berkeley professor

The First take: We double-checked this one. It's not the Babylon Bee or the Onion. This is an actual opinion piece from a former Berkeley professor teaching high school in San Francisco. Ms. Seyer-Ochi believes Bernie's iconic mittens are sign of his privilege and in fact an insult to the solemn ceremony he was attending. Those of us who were raised in places like Chicago, where winter is a real thing, found Bernie's outfit to be "winter smart."

BLM nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

HeadlineBlack Lives Matter nominated for Nobel peace prize

What's Up: Petter Eide, a Norwegian Socialist member of Parliament, has nominated Black Live Matter for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Quote: "'Sometimes the committee have been very brave,' Eide said via email to NBC News, pointing to the 1964 peace prize winner Martin Luther King Jr. and Liu Xiaobo, a Chinese dissident, the 2010 winner. Eide added that Black Lives Matter will be 'among the favorites' when the winner is announced in December." — NBCNews.com

The First take: We suggest Mr. Eide check his history. Dr. King's Nobel Prize was awarded for his non-violent movement resulting in the modern civil rights movement in America. We also wonder if the Nobel committee has expanded the awards categories and now includes a "Mostly Peaceful" prize?
