Day One: President Biden begins effort to erase the Trump era

HeadlineJoe Biden immediately overturns Trump executive orders, says he got his letter

What's Up: President Biden vowed to get to work on "day one" and he did just that, signing a slew of Executive Orders and Executive Actions meant to undo or cancel actions taken by now former President Trump.

Quote: "'I’m going to start by keeping the promises I made to the American people. There’s a long way to go, these are just executive actions. They are important, but we’re going to need legislation for other things we’re going to do,' Biden told reporters." — NYPost.com

The First take: As we have noted before, governing by Executive Order is problematic due to the ability to have those orders easily undone. That said, President Biden's actions will face some challenges. Canada is not happy about cancelling the XL Pipeline, there's no enforcement mechanism in the Paris Climate Accord, and even Biden himself was spotted without a mask at the Lincoln Monument (he signed an order mandating masks and social distancing on federal property).

So much unity: Pelosi wants Trump charged as an accessory to murder

HeadlineNancy Pelosi: Trump Could Be Accessory To Murder Because He ‘Instigated’ An ‘Insurrection’

What's Up: One of the more curious Inauguration Day media moments belongs Nancy Pelosi. Appearing on MSNBC with Joy Reid, Speaker Pelosi talked about the five people who died in and around the January 6th riot at the Capitol, calling some of the deaths "murder" and declared President Trump to be an "accessory" to the alleged crimes.

Quote: "'And this president is an accessory to that crime because he instigated that insurrection that caused those deaths and this destruction,' she said." — Nancy Pelosi via MSNBC

The First take: We remind the Speaker not a single one of the deaths related to the Capitol riot has been called a murder. Not yet, anyway. Additionally, we're not even certain the former president will be tried by the Senate following the House impeachment. Perhaps the Speaker needs to listen to the songs from "Frozen" and just "Let it go!"

VP Harris called 'The most influential woman in American history'

HeadlineHarris now 'the most influential woman' in American politics

What's Up: Inauguration Day was definitely important to many supporters of the Biden-Harris ticket. According to at least one college professor it also marked a sea change in American politics and elevated Vice President Kamala Harris to a position of power and prominence ahead of every single American woman, living or dead.

Quote: "'She now is the most influential woman in American history, ever,' said Duchess Harris, who teaches modern African American history at Macalester College in Minnesota." — TheHill.com

The First take: Well, that was fast. Kamala Harris was sworn in as Biden's VP just before noon on Wednesday and (according to this college professor) she has already supplanted Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi and trailblazers like Rosa Parks. We're guessing a Nobel Prize or two should be arriving any day now.

Coincidence? Amazon offers to help distribute the COVID-19 vaccine

HeadlineAmazon Writes Letter To Biden Offering To Help Distribute Vaccines

What's Up: Shortly after Joe Biden became president, news broke that Amazon had written to Biden offering access to the company's numerous facilities across the country for vaccine distribution.

Quote: "Congratulations to you and Vice President Harris on your inauguration. As you begin your work leading the country out of the COVID-19 crisis, Amazon stands ready to assist you in reaching your goal of vaccinating 100 million Americans in the first 100 days of your administration." — Amazon CEO Dave Clark

The First take: Of course we're curious about the timing of this offer. Vaccines have been available for weeks and there is no evidence Amazon offered to assist distributing the shots during Trump's administration. Obviously, we want as many people to get the vaccine as soon as possible. We just wish Amazon felt the same way and would have made this offer months ago. It could have saved untold lives. Such a move would also have likely helped President Trump. (There it is.)
