Last summer – when the anti-cop riots were spreading throughout the country – a group of protesters descended on a Confederate monument in Portsmouth, Virginia to make a statement.
Like so many other “peaceful” protests, it eventually got out of hand – the protesters defaced and destroyed the statue, resulting in severe injuries for one of the protesters.
This riot posed a serious threat to public safety where someone could have died.
Chief Greene and her department knew they had no choice but to uphold the law – so they charged 19 of the protesters with felony destruction of a war monument, including a far-Left Virginia State Senator who claimed the rioters had “permission” to destroy the monument.
That’s when things took an even darker turn.
In response to the charges, Chief Greene was removed from her position as Chief of Police and fired.
Chief Greene is no rookie.
She’s been a law enforcement officer since 2001 and has risen through the ranks because of her steadfast commitment to her legal, ethical, and moral obligations as an Officer.
Certainly, no police officer in America expected the mass rioting and destruction that took place in 2020.
But if you ask me, few Police Departments across the country handled the situation as well as Chief Greene’s Department.
That’s why Chief Greene’s firing is so infuriating.
There was absolutely NO evidence that she had violated any policy or fallen short of her expectations.
Chief Greene did her job perfectly and upheld the law she swore to protect. Now, she’s being punished for refusing to turn a blind eye to the destruction of public property.
The LELDF is committed to helping Chief Greene overcome this incredible injustice and make clear that we are a nation of laws and mob rule will never win the day.
I hope I can count on your continued support as we help defend Chief Greene.
And please, stay tuned for more updates on the other wrongly accused Officers we’re defending in 2021.
Sincerely,
Jason Johnson
President, LELDF
