California judge orders "poles" to be re-opened (that's not a typo)

HeadlineCA Judge Orders San Diego Strip Clubs To Reopen As Churches Fight For Same Right

What's Up: The "poles" are opened again in California. In one of the most interesting Firs Amendment cases we've seen, a judge has ruled in favor of strip clubs being allowed to be open for business while houses of worship are still fighting against that state's stringent restrictions limiting crowd sizes and banning normal worship activities like singing.

Quote: "This is a constitutional travesty that must be immediately rectified. As one California judge aptly noted – you can’t treat a church like a hair salon because churches are entitled to greater protection under the Constitution. And you certainly can’t treat a church like a strip club. In California, churches are being treated worse than strip clubs. The constitutional right to worship God is infinitely more important than any right to entertainment." — Attorney Paul Jonna to DailyWire.com

The First take: California continues to surprise us. (And, not in a good way.) After Governor Newsom got caught at a fancy dinner with no masks or distancing comes this ruling with a judge favoring strip clubs over churches. As syndicated radio talker Chris Plante likes to say, "If it weren't for double standards, Democrats would have no standards at all."

Forgiving student loans would help AOC, Ilhan Omar and 57 other members of Congress

HeadlineMembers of Congress owe millions in student loans

What's Up: One of the biggest giveaways Democrats are promising voters is significant forgiveness of student loan debt. Joe Biden plans on a $10,000 break while Chuck Schumer is pushing for elimination of as much as $50,000 in student loans. Did you know there are approximately 59 members of Congress paying back student loans?

Quote: "Ocasio-Cortez reported owing between $15,001 and $50,000 in student loan debt in her most recent financial disclosure. Two of her closest allies in the House, Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), also are paying back student loans." — OpenSecrets.org

The First take: No surprise here. Members of Congress supporting government giveaways that would personally benefit their own bottom line is nothing new. What we do find shocking is Progressives expecting working class Americans they claim to represent to pay for their poor judgement.

Trump announces news conference: "Clear and viable path to victory"

HeadlinePresident Trump announces news conference by lawyers on ‘a very clear and viable path to victory’

What's Up: President Trump's tweet announcing an "Important News Conference" at the RNC offices in Washington, D.C. today has certainly gotten the attention of political junkies in the US and around the world.

Quote: "'Important News Conference today by lawyers on a very clear and viable path to victory. Pieces are very nicely falling into place. RNC at 12:00 P.M.'" — Via Twitter.com

The First take: We don't expect Donald Trump to attend the event. But our sources say the Trump legal team will be making details of their case know and, maybe, just possibly "releasing the Kraken" as has been promised. Stay tuned to The First for full analysis.

Michigan GOP canvassers now want to rescind their certification of votes

HeadlineTwo Wayne County Board of Canvassers trying to rescind vote certification

What's Up: Less than 24 hours after voting to certify the vote totals in Michigan's Wayne County, two GOP members of the canvassing board are seeking to rescind their votes. The two have filed paperwork claiming they were pressured into certifying the count.

Quote: "The board vice chairman, Jonathan Kinloch, told the New York Times 'that vote was final ... that vote was binding.' He went on to say, 'you can’t leave and then decide after a meeting adjourned that you want to decide from your living room that you don’t like the vote and sign something that says you’re under duress. We’re always under attack.'" — AP.com

The First take: "Under duress" is an important phrase here. We believe Courts have long supported protecting those who claim they were coerced into make a decision. In this case, both parties have submitted signed statements making serious claims which could negate their initial vote. We would like to hear their entire story. Why not let them speak?
