In the words of the Godfather: "You can act like a man!"

If they hated Trump as president, Trump in the opposition will really drive them nuts. He’ll spend the next 4 years preparing for his 2024 comeback. The rallies will continue. In 2022, he’ll campaign for Trump Republicans running for office. In 2024, he’ll be the second president elected to two non-consecutive terms.

Here’s the ultimate irony of 2020: If “progressives” had allowed a fair election, they would have had Trump for four more years. Now, they’ve got him for 8.’

Now, as always in dark times, the great enemy is despair. “Oh, whatever shall we do?” some of you are asking. Let’s start with what not to do: Don’t behave like a whiney little girl whose Mary Janes got scuffed – or, in the words of the Godfather, “You can act like a man!”

We knew that unless the president won by a landslide, the Democrats would try to steal it. Guess what, we were right. We should be outraged, but not surprised.

Assuming legal challenges fail, and the Zombie (the Homer) takes the oath of office in January, what is to be done? Let’s start with an inventory of what we have.

  • We control the Senate – notwithstanding that the GOP had twice as many seats to defend – and Democrats spent obscene sums ($100 million to defeat Lindsay Graham). Mitch McConnell will still be the Senate Majority leader in the next Congress. Among other matters, he’ll decide which judicial nominees will get a vote.

  • We’ll also have control of a majority of governorships and state legislative chambers.

  • Nancy Pelosi will have a diminished majority next year. Democrats who aren’t as far to the left as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will be looking over their shoulder as we approach the mid-term election.

  • The party out of power always picks up seats in an off-year election. Chances are very good that we’ll have both houses of Congress in 2023.

  • You can always trust the left to overplay its hand – on everything from abortion to taxes or, in the situation at hand, packing the Court to DC and Puerto Rico statehood – which will panic voters in the middle.

  • Once conservatives were isolated. Now we have an army behind us – the hundreds of thousands who showed up at Trump’s rallies screaming their heads off, the blue-collar contingent who’ve found their home in the new GOP, minorities who are increasingly aligned with us,  veterans, police and workers in the energy sector, etc.
