THOUSANDS Renounce American Citizenship Over COVID and President Trump

(ThePatriotSource.com)- Almost six thousand people renounced their American citizenship within the first half of 2020, which his a significant increase over the previous six months. It’s almost unthinkable that people might give up their citizenship of the United States given just how many millions of people globally trying to become legal residents of the county, but thousands have done so this year citing everything from the Chinese coronavirus to President Donald Trump.
Bambridge Accountants New York, a company that specializes in handling the tax affairs of UK expatriates and American citizens, reported the numbers following their release by the Inland Revenue Service. They found that 5,816 American citizens renounced their citizenship over the first half of this year, which is more than double the number compared to last year.
There was even a pretty huge increase over the previous six months, indicating that people really don’t want to live in the United States any more, and don’t even want their citizenship.
According to Bambridge, one of the main reasons people gave up their citizenship was the response to the Chinese coronavirus pandemic. “Onerous tax reporting” was also another significant reason people were giving up their citizenship status, and later during an interview with CNN suggested that President Donald Trump played a role in their decisions too.
Despite not mentioning the president during their press release, a representative of the company explained how many people are so offended by the president that they simply want to leave.
“What we’ve seen is people are over everything happening with President Donald Trump, how the coronavirus pandemic is being handled, and the political policies in the US at the moment,” Alistair Bambridge, a partner at the firm, told CNN.
The press release explained how the pandemic “has allowed individuals the time to review their ties to the U.S. and decide that the current political climate and annual US tax reporting is just too much to bear.
For American citizens living abroad, they are still required to file tax returns in the US every year and even potentially pay American tax and report all of their foreign bank accounts and investments. For Americans, they say, it’s too much of a complicated intrusion.
Renouncing American citizenship isn’t exactly easy, either. It costs $2,350 and requires a visit to the United States Embassy in their country of residence.
Imagine suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome so badly that you want to leave the country for good.
