NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,
I hope that you had an outstanding Independence Day! This holiday weekend has been different from previous years. Many traditions have been postponed or canceled. However, that will not stop us from celebrating Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.

That’s the thing about our country, we cannot, and will not, be stopped. Our nation was built on perseverance, passion, and dedication. The more our Founding Fathers faced, the harder they fought. We should utilize that inspiration to overcome the obstacles we’re facing in America today.

These may be times that try men’s souls, but like always, we’ll fight, and we will win.

This Week in the DistrictMeeting with Boy Scouts from Our District
This week, I spoke with Boy Scouts from Chipley, Marianna, and Panama City. As a former Eagle Scout, it was an honor sharing with them why I’m proud to be an American and why we must preserve the Constitution. In addition, I explained to them how to be a good citizen and give back to our communities and our country.

The next generation will inherit this country one day. We must take the time to teach them about our history and how to preserve this great nation.

The competition is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. Applications on all platforms are accepted. In the past, mobile apps, web apps, study tools, games, journal apps, and more have been submitted. You can click here to learn more.

The Census affects Florida's funding for education, health, transportation, water & waste, infrastructure, affordable housing, the arts, and the environment.

While many of us are focused on adapting to the pandemic, we cannot afford to neglect the Census. This takes only a few minutes and is now easier than ever to access.

Legislative UpdateVeterans Affairs Committee
On Thursday, the House Veterans Affairs Committee Health Subcommittee and the Women’s Veterans Taskforce held a hearing on veteran access to reproductive healthcare. The committee heard from VA officials and a representative from Paralyzed Veterans of America about the VA’s health offerings related to reproductive care and infertility and the veteran experience receiving reproductive healthcare at the VA.

Unfortunately, the Democrats saw this as another opportunity to push their abortion agenda. This hearing was meant to focus on In Vitro Fertilization and helping couples bring a child into this world; giving life, not taking it away. I joined Washington Watch with Tony Perkins to elaborate. You can listen to the podcast here.

I am pleased with the array of services offered by the VA, and I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues and the VA to drive continued improvements in this space as more women enter the VA health system.

  • A Consumer Update, titled Getting Smarter about Food Safety: The Pandemic and Lessons Learned, explains that throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the experts at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have learned valuable lessons that will help shape our work to create a more digital and transparent, as well as safer, food system for you and your family. In the coming weeks, the FDA will unveil the blueprint for the New Era of Smarter Food Safety, which lays out how we will use technology and modern approaches over the next decade to strengthen the ways we approach the safety of the nation’s food supply, every day and in times of crisis.
This Week's Good News
Excellent news! The Department of Labor is reporting that the U.S. economy has added a record 4.8 million jobs in June. The unemployment rate dropped from 13.3% to 11.1%.

We still have a lot of work to do to turn this economy around. However, we are making good progress. Let's keep this up! Here’s a link to the full story.
Thank you for your continued energy and enthusiasm, as reflected in your letters and Facebook posts. If you haven’t already, LIKE my Facebook page. You can also follow me on Twitter @DrNealDunnFL2.

Constituent Casework Corner
A veteran spent two weeks trying to get the Department of Veterans Affairs to refill their prescription. After being repeatedly passed from department to department, the veteran contacted my office. We were able to work with the VA to get the veteran an appointment scheduled at an approved facility, and the prescription filled.
