NEWS FROM THE SECOND DISTRICT

Dear Friend,
I want to take a moment and check-in with you. These past two months have been tough, both economically and mentally. Many have been distanced from family and friends and many have had to face furlough and unemployment. While this will certainly be a difficult trial to bounce-back from, I remain confident that we will overcome this and walk away stronger than before.
The Senate has returned to Washington, D.C. this week; however, we're still awaiting news of a return date for the House. I’ve joined many of my peers in urging the Speaker to reopen the House. Unilateral deals made behind closed doors is not the best way to have every American’s voice heard. It’s imperative that we return to Washington, D.C. to properly represent our constituents and their needs. As things progress and we continue to work toward reopening our economy, I want to keep you in the loop. To get updates on what's happening in Washington and in the Second District, please click here.

I'm happy to report that we are continuing to make great progress with the Paycheck Protection Program. We have also received word from the Small Business Administration (SBA) that agricultural businesses are now eligible for SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) and EIDL Advance program.
You can read more about this here
From April 27th to May 1st, the SBA has approved over 2 million loans for a total of over $175 billion from more than 5,400 lenders nationwide. If your small business is in need of assistance, you can learn more about the Paycheck Protection Program here and visit the SBA's Disaster Assistance Portal here.

Here are some more resources that may help you:

IMPORTANT -Both the Federal Trade Commission and the Federal Communications Commission are reporting a spike in coronavirus related scams including home testing kits, fake cures, and other malicious attempts to prey on COVID-19 fears. The Treasury Department will NOT ask you to pay anything in exchange for the payment most Americans will receive as a result of the CARES Act and will not contact you for your bank account information. If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from the government asking for this type of information, please report it to www.ftc.gov/complaint. You can learn more about how to protect yourself from these types of scams here.

I would also like to remind you to avoid close contact with others, wash your hands, use hand sanitizer, wear a mask if you need to leave your house, and cover your cough or sneeze. PLEASE stay at home if you are not feeling well. If you think you might have the Coronavirus, please call your doctor and explain what you are feeling before going to a hospital.
Don't forget to sign up for regular updates from me. You can also follow me on Facebook and Twitter for real-time updates. To find resources for students, teachers, veterans, and small businesses, please visit my website at www.Dunn.House.Gov.

Together, we will beat this.

Sincerely,

Dr. Neal Dunn
Member of Congress
